Best u.p.s working even power interruptions more than 12 hrs love it

Am I correct in thinking that a 12v/36W mini ups connected to my router is only to maintain internet connections to devices powered by their own batteries...i.e not on mains power?

Also, is it best for wifi enabled devices alone, or does it deplete its charge faster if it's sending data down ethernet cable connected devices; or does it have smart tech to only power the wifi part of the router?
