What are your thoughts on the glow up culture? How do you define a “glow up”?🌱✨

a true glow-up is a time-consuming process---its not only glowing up on the outside its also most importantly on the inside

"Rejecting the imperfect version of yourself is not necessarily a true glow up" this will be one of my favorite reminders... Thank you, Zoe!

The only glow up I need is a mental health glow up ! Mental health is so important, it is a little bit sad that everything revolves around looks these days..

Glowing up isn’t getting hot, it’s learning to love yourself after years of not, it’s trying to be kind when you haven’t been for a while, it’s taking care of yourself. Real glow ups make your entire existence feel beautiful, not just what your eyes see

I think the root of all evil is pretty privilege. Everybody wouldn't try that hard to be attractive if there weren't any genuine benefits and difference of treatment towards people who are.

I’ve deleted all of my social media accounts this week. The whole (slightly narcissistic) ideal of putting everything on social media has made my mental health devolve.

I’m so glad that you’re talking about how toxic this trend has become. Paying for validation has become the norm (that even I’ve been guilty of) but wake up calls like this reminds us that we are enough just the way we are plus a nice pair of slippers and lipstick every once in awhile 😂❤️

I think you're the only reason I am at an "okay" mental state. Your advice has litteraly saved me.

personally, my biggest "ick" about glow up culture is seeing young teens (usually 13-15) calling puberty their "glow up" and implying -- or even flat out claiming -- that their child self was ugly. it makes me sad for them. social media has so many people convinced that children/preteens don't exist anymore, especially in terms of their natural "awkwardness" and physical characteristics. most young people try to look like adults online - and i've witnessed lots of people get hate online for not fitting that standard. i wish we could re-normalize being young and awkward without trying to be hot and older.

tbh my type of glowup is washing my hair, putting on a face mask, sleeping early (getting at least 8 hours of sleep), journaling/reflecting on my life and taking a day off (also known as a self care day lol).
edit: wow ya'll, 800+ likes! I never get this many! ty!

The best glow up I've every had was investing in my self confidence and retraining my brain to accept myself.

As a girl wearing glasses daily, i felt so insecure seeing that almost ALL makeovers included not wearing glasses anymore. I questioned my beauty regularly.

The glow up goes too fast for any style evolution or inside growing to happen, too. Most glow-ups, as pretty as they are, are just people dressing up in the latest trends and not branching out into different styles to create their own look.

It implies looking like a kid is ugly and bad too. Kids may be inexperienced and have weird moments, (I can’t talk; I’m a kid) but they gain the experience through taking their time.
The whole thing with sexualizing kids who are too young to be sexualized is a whole ‘nother story.

I’m happy to see someone talk about this. I often feel pressured to “glow up” because my style is kind of outdated (my cowlicks make it physically impossible for a mid-part, thank you very much) even though I enjoy what I wear.

Taking it slow does wonders, guys.

Last year I used to be super self conscious of my outer appearance, I would wear baggy clothing to hide my body, I would try to wear masks as much as possible in order to hide my face, as a result I got called ugly a lot which took a toll on my mental health. Flash forward to this year, I got rid of all the toxic people in my life and simply stopped caring about others opinions about because because let's face it, they're busy being insecure about themselves and point out their insecurities on you. Coincidentally, this year I got complemented a lot. Glowing up doesn't mean you need to spend a lot of money or any money at all, for me it's about restoring your confidence and realizing that you are worth everything in the world and nobody should tell you any less of who you are.

my definition on "glowing up" would be to just find my true self and start caring about how i wanna see the world rather than how the world looks at me and my appearance. i have this dream of just being myself and find out ways that i can be happier.

thank you so much for such a reflective video. you're amazing.

It’s sad that most but not all the glow up videos are made by girls for girls
My point is the need to be better/ look attractive is mostly targeted towards us
It’s so sad because being you doesn’t feel enough
We consume and consume
But it’s good that Zoe is addressing this
Like sometimes it’s like do I really need this or is society saying this

YES GIRL! If your end result is something superficial, then don’t expect it to last long, or even more so, don’t expect to even reach your goal. If your end result is something inside like strength, kindness, or health, it will last longer and you’ll end up way happier and more confident ❤️

"glow up" just means "already pretty girl puts on even more make-up" these days
ngl I'm sad that most of it literally, like zoe said, is consumerism and marketing

I'm just starting off with my inner "glow up" (doing things to feel better and improve my quality of life, detoxifying from social media, etc) and this video helped me a lot! :)
