You can come as you are, but you cannot remain as you are....

Years ago I started a Christian record label. We had about 20 artists signed and we were doing concerts all over the country. I started to see the corruption growing in the industry. I was one of the people who voted for the Dove awards. They started rewarding artists more for sales revenues than their message. Major record labels started signing young female singers who were attractive and dressing them in provocative clothing. Major labels started paying radio stations kickbacks if they played their music more often. Song lyrics started getting watered down to make sure pop radio stations would consider playing the songs. A top industry executive, well known, told me that our music would earn more revenue if we watered down our lyrics and took the name Jesus out of the songs. At industry parties, you would see more people drinking to the point of being unable to drive. Great artists like Michael Card were no longer getting much air play. I could go on. I sold our company and left the industry. Today, I still listen to Christian music and there are a few great artists, but there are equally as many who couldn't name the books of the bible...or even name 5 prominent people in the bible. I once asked a top selling artist who his favorite individual was in the bible. He replied Jesus. I said who would be next and he couldn't tell me a single name. I offered Mark, Matthew, Luke, John...nope. He didn't know who they were. The industry clearly didn't care anymore about the Gospel...it became 100% focused on cash.

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand, The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash. When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching...

The problem with Christians in this age, is wanting to be excepted by the world and loved by Christ, we must choose Christ and be Literally hated by this world which is passing away.
When finally came to this realization I felt liberated, choosing Christ meant assurance of salvation.

My issue with Amy Grant is that she was CHEATING on her husband many years ago & she even left Christian music temporarily. She married the artist she was having an affair with! Her former husband (in interviews & articles) was pleading with her to work things out & begging for counseling, heartbroken over what is against God's word. Amy Grant went secular & was praised by people everywhere, eventually making her return to Christian music. I loved her music, etc & purged everything- save the original El Shaddai record. To my knowledge, she never publicly admitted her sins nor asked for forgiveness. I am not saying Christians are supposed to be perfect, but we need to show signs of our repentance & turning from sin. I'm not trying to hate, just share my thoughts. Let's all go praise God & speak the Truth to all those we meet!

In 1999 my oldest son was dying of cancer. The news boys spent an hour in our house quietly spending time with the boy who had been deeply impacted by their music. His favorite song was big big house. That night the news boys dedicated their concert to my son, Travis. He went to be with Jesus three hours later. They were good people but I have seen them slip. I don’t know if it’s possible to be a celebrity Christian. It is antithetical in every sense. Thank you for your ministry I agree with you. I’ve been a pastor for 34 years and my heart cries for the way the heart of many in ministry has bent in the direction of the world. When we bend too low we lose our voice

I don't think you're overreacting. The whole "celebrity leader" mindset in many churches in general is a BIG problem. Only God can handle being on a pedestal. Worldly appeasement is now a requirement in many "christian" circles to maintain notoriety. A general red-flag is any church or "christian personality" who blurs the lines.

Wow! I worked the music industry with most of the people you mentioned and you are SPOT ON! I had to leave the music industry once I saw what I saw!

I remember when Christ came to me, I felt it in my core (realize now that it was my spirit): "Come as you are." The revelation I had is that sanctification is a process, A GRADUAL transformation. It doesn't happen all at once. As soon as I acknowledged that my heart changed. Everything changed. Looking back where I first began in January 2021, I am no longer who I used to be. I have grown so much and I am growing more and more everyday. When born again Christians say that we are set apart from the world, it is soooo true! But when people who claim the title of Christian but lack genuine repentance, that's all they are. You're a "Christian" but no disciple. It gets me upset because unbelievers follow these people and think that it's all okay to live your sinful, fallen, darkened, self centered life and still be able to be accepted when they stand before God on judgement day. That is a sad and DANGEROUS perception.

This Scripture is becoming more and more evident everyday. May God give us His strength to stay on course.
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and there are many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Matthew 7:13-14

The difference is simply this; when Jesus healed, and sat with the sinners they were changed. When they sit/side with sinners it isn’t the sinner that is changed, they are… The idea behind come as you are is not so you stay as you are but rather your thoughts and heart, and your desires begin to change to become more like Jesus Christ. Bottom line is who is changing who? We aren’t called to call good what God has said is wicked, evil and an abomination.

Amy Grant broke my and so many other fan's hearts. I grew up with her music and looked up to her like a role model when I was a kid . I wanted to be like her. I even tried to style my hair like her, when I was a silly and impressionable 12 year old. Starting in the 90s I started noticing her acting worldly (in her videos and in things she said in interviews) and it bothered me but I let it go. Now I no longer listen to her at all. The old music I grew up with is so nostalgic to me but I can't even listen to it right now after recent developments, because it makes me feel sad. I'm so disappointed in her. But I learned a long time ago not to put any human on a pedestal because they can fall off. Jesus is the only one that we can have absolute assurance will not let us down. I also like Michael W Smith and he mostly does worship music now. He and Toby Mac and Michael Tate have seemed really solid to me as men of God. The Newsboys video and DC Talk reunion is concerning, but I have known about Kevin for awhile. I have loved most of these people since I was a kid! What is happening?

God is separating the sheep from the goats. I had to ask my own biological brother to step down from our Christian band because he is in sin, and refuses to repent and stop. It hurt me, but I worship God, not family.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Been listening a long time to Christian music and now I will do what I should have done to begin with - explore and learn prior to listening. I know I am a sinner and need my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ every minute of every day! In this day and age, we must be vigilant and always watchful!!

As a 90s baby and listening to these people my whole childhood and most of my adult life it hurts my heart to see that this is happening. Just goes to show we should never have a celebrity to "guide" us as we walk this road. Just makes me pray for them and the lost harder. This is very disturbing because they are walking on scary grounds and need to watch out what they are doing. Jesus, guide these people back to you!

I've been listening to Newsboys and DC Talk about 20 years.. Their music helped strengthen my faith... I'm broken hearted 😢😢 to hear this...

Thank you for this. Hard things to hear but some of the hardest things are the most necessary. Spent my teens and twenties on the Peter Furler Newsboys and DC Talk, introduced them to my kids. I have been watching the disintegration of CCM with a heavy heart for a long while now. Praying for the hearts of these artists to be made right with the Lord.

You know what takes courage? Accepting your sinful nature and taking the narrow road.

Self affirmation and being comfortable is the opposite of what the Bible teaches and is the widest road you could ever take.

Eye-opening, thank you. I was just reading about this last night. "Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him." Ephesians 5:6

Even at first, Nickelback was a Christian rock band, but they strayed very quickly as they gained fame. FACTS!!
