Let's be careful when we throw "contemporary Christian music" into a basket. As with anything else, Christians need to use discernment with whom they listen to. Not all Christian music can be ranked together, even contemporary music.

We had a gospel singing family that used to perform at our church when they were in town. One of the daughters auditioned for American idol and wanted to do Christian songs. She was asked by one of the female judges who is a very popular singer to unbutton her top few buttons so she didn’t look so stuffy and frumpy and also asked to do more main stream music, and she refused so they did not choose her. She made the right choice she chose God and they do very well without her being on American Idol. I just remember them telling that story and it really stands out to me especially after watching this video.

A while ago my husband and I were leaving my friends house to go home. I turned on the radio and after a few songs, I remember thinking to myself that the enemy had made his way into the christian music. It was like I was being shown the darkness within the industry. Like all of a sudden I was able to hear the subliminals they were trying to put in our ears. Not all songs were like that, but a few. I got freaked out by the revelation and started to pray and eventually turned the radio off. My husband asked what was wrong but I didn't tell him until the next day. To this day when I listen to Christian music, I pay close attention and make sure that it glorifies the Lord and that it aligns with the word of God. If songs are about "me, me, me", those are big red flags. Some songs might seem like your praising God because they produce those "feel good" feelings but they are actually bringing praise to other things and to ones self. We have to be careful, the enemy is crafty.
