Incredible Machining Process of Industrial Wheel

I always wondered why thw flywheels and bull gears on our mechanical presses would crack. Figuring out they were manufactured in the style of 1870's, has given me my answer.

I see there are a few machinist like myself and this guy on the video. Yes, right here in America we to machine and hobb gears this big. Most machinist don't work on parts this big because they don't like or can't handle that weight of responsibility. It's easy to watch, but crown, heliacal pitch, concentricity and perpendicularity are easily screwed up along any step here.

I would get sacked for sending a raw casting like that off the shop floor. Inch thick flash, sand inclusions, l and gas bubbles i can stick my thumb in.

The hammer banging on the casting is actually important. It relieves stresses in the casting prior to machining.

Yea. Yowza. I know a thing or two about machine tool and CNC. I went to college and worked it in the field as a machinist. That lathe is huge. That horizontal mill is huge. A whole lot of thought skill and complex mathematics went into the planning and execution of this machining operation. This video is a cool one.

Уже по звуку в самом начале видео ясно, что отливка - полный брак: качественный чугун должен звенеть как колокол, но тем не менее они принимают заведомо бракованную отливку в работу 🤦‍♂
Дальнейшие кадры являются лишь подтверждением: при обработке вскрываются многочисленные раковины и включения шлака в металле 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂
Ну и конечно же рабочие в резиновых тапках на босу ногу и без каких-либо средств индивидуальной защиты: техника безопасности - как всегда "на высоте". Рабочему, которому заготовкой раздавит в мясокостный фарш ногу, объявят, что он де аллаху плохо молился, видимо. И то же самое, скорее всего, выскажут заказчику в ответ на претензию по поводу сломавшейся на следующий же день детали
