In this video i show you how to change the fluid and filter in your 6R80 transmissions. I show you little tricks for keeping the gasket in place and keeping fluid off of your sway bar. This isn't a bad job and i do recommend doing this. ford will tell you just like all the others this is lifetime fluid but lets be honest, I don't know about all of you but i plan to break 500k without changing the transmission haha. This transmission goes in a bunch of different fords such as the f150, mustang, expedition and others. If you enjoyed the video please leave a like, comment, share and subscribe. Thanks!

I used a siphon pump to remove as much tranny fluid as I could before I started. Barely spilled any fluid when I removed the pan.

If i do this with no lift on level ground, can i drain the pan before removal with a pump? Also how much more of a pain is it without the lift?

Do you check while engine is running??

great video. Question: Did you drain 7 qts out of the pan? Many similar videos say that about 4 to 4.5 qts drain out (I don't think you said how much came out). How can it be possible that 7 qts go back in? That doesn't make sense to me. Maybe you can clarify?

I replaced all of my trans-lines because of rust. Next comes fluid and filter. Thanks for the tin foil tip.

So you can start the engine & shift through the gears with out installing the dipstick & cap ?

Buy a new pan with a drain plug. Always use a new gasket. Then you can do drain and fills every 15K-20K miles without removing the pan. The filter screen can go 60K miles between replacements. Fluid is cheap transmissions are expensive. Ford MC Mercon LV is made by Phillips Petroleum. Phillips Petroleum also makes Kendall LV which is way cheaper than the Ford products. Also, Mag 1 is a Ford LV approved licensed product and cheaper as well.

That metal gasket is reusable and far superior to the stamped rubber gasket you used.

Did you just cycle through R/N/D/2/1 or did you cycle all 6 gears when you were manual? Thanks

I have a 2018 f150 3.3L 6 speed trans. Plan on doing this soon. Are the 6 speeds transmissions the 6R80’s?

I have a 2014 and I haven’t touched the transmission for 120k miles.. what changes do you see after a fluid drain and fill?

Where did you get the pump and tube that fits the fluid bottle you used to fill the transmission? Also what size tube and pump? Awesome vid!! TIA

just buy an updated transmission pan with a drain plug. They're $20. You're going to want to do this every 40k. Save yourself the mess and hassle.
