A revolution is taking place in our towns and cities - people are increasingly ditching their cars and opting to do the school run or commute to work on electric bikes.

A surge of electric Cargo Bikes has swept the nation, in the form of couriers, food deliverers, florists, and now MUMS!

We are BIG fans of this revolution, in fact - we're part of it. So much so that you can get a free child seat with any electric bike mentioned in this video by adding a bike and a child seat to your cart, and using the code COOLKIDS at checkout.

I got an email from you today with the subject "Hello Tom, what are you waiting for?" - I'm waiting for the bloody politicians to get their shizzle together and let me ride a scooter to work!

I got an electric bike for my 10 mile trip to work, took me 35 minutes down a cycle path that is lucky enough to be next to my house, its beautiful seeing wild life rabbits, pheasant, bird travelling to my work.

Her seat is definitely not high enough, I found out from your new video :) @9:33

£8, 600.00 is an absolute joke of a price!!! How the hell do they justify that? You can buy 3 125cc brand new motorcycles for that price!

As a lifelong and experienced cyclist I applaud this and also recommend she raises her saddle to maximise pedalling efficiency and reduce likelihood of strain injury. Your leg should ideally have only a very slight bend at the knee (looks more or less straight but not locked solid) when at bottom of pedal-stroke.

Automakers in my country (and in many others too I believe) stopped selling entry level cars because they don't make much money selling those. They could be digging their own grave since this could be a big push towards e-bikes. Too bad we don't have any electric cargo bikes here yet.

The Tern GSD model Laura is using is the S10 which retails at a much more modest price of £5000. The Tern model you're promoting on your webshop is the premium R14 with a Rohloff hub for £8600, hardly an entry model for child transportation.

Getting my CUBE electric bike in a few days through the cycle to work scheme, with a£500 discount in the shop and then £600 savings through the scheme it’s a total bargain. Only downer is there’s no way I can leave it anywhere other than work as bike crime is so prolific, but cycling to work along the river Cam will be way better than sitting in traffic.

I've been riding Not driving for 3 years and you'll need waterproof clothing and I recommend heated gloves they ROCK

I agree that the saddle is too low, but I'd estimate it's within a 25mm range - enough to only matter on particularly long rides. I'm always riding bikeshares so on every ride, I'm adjusting the height across different generation frames, checking for collapsed saddle adjustments, testing for chains in dangerously poor condition, and I've also gotten the comparison between pedal and pedal assist when riding the ebikes. With the ebike the pedal assist kicks in on the first stroke and magically increases your power output, so you just don't care a lot about efficiency until you hit a steep grade. Biasing low is better for commuting. A lower center of gravity makes stopping easier, connection to pedals and ankle stability is ensured, scooting starts are easier. High saddles tend to be what professional fitting biases towards, but the rationale for it when commuting is all wrong.

This is particularly London biased it doesn’t always relate to other areas of the country, the woman featured still owns a car so she is fortunate in being able to afford to run a car and spend over £8k on an electric bike. I think that small ev, s are also part of the answer, vehicles like the Wuling Hongguan mini ev which in China costs less than the Tern.

I dont get why ebikes are so expensive.
Electric scooters with 2kW battery, 70km top speed, 60V system, app, colorfull display, front rear light, fenders, air suspension = 4000 Euro.
Electric moped with 2kW battery, 70 km top speed, 60V system, app, colorfull display, locking, front rear light, fenders, spring suspension, road legal = 4000 Euro.
Electric bike with 0, 7kW battery, 40km top speed, 36V system, no app, 80s calculator display, no lights, no fenders, no suspension = 4000 Euro.

A lot of people on this channel ride a bike incorrectly the seat height needs to be a lot higher if they do this they will find riding a bike a lot easier. See Peter Piper's comments.

All power to her. We have to get out of this mindset of needing a car as soon as we leave school. I never thought about that when I did so have always cycled everywhere or used public transport. I live and work in the same town and my journey is only just over 2 miles so for me driving would be a waste of time.

Great video. This is the sort of active travel promotion that really gets through to people. Normal people, no ranting. More power to your elbow making stuff like this.

Great job on this video. This is the way to go. I just hope mankind discovers this before it is too late.

Braver parents than I are leading the way for the rest of us! I cycle a lot of places in Boston, including to and from work, and for the USA it's a pretty bikeable city despite the aggressive drivers. When I take my toddler to school, I have to pass some stroads so I take my giant pickup truck. I see a guy taking his kids on an urban arrow (not on the stroad) and I'm rooting for him. Unfortunately, without the appropriate infrastructure, I dont feel safe doing the same.

I hate driving, I hate traffic, and I know my daughter would love riding to school. Hopefully some day we can live in a world where travel is a healthy, safe, joyful activity.

Great video, nice to see mum's perspective. Wondering if a new kind of bike tracker would help people like that, i.e. one that is put well into the frame of the bike and "energy harvests" to get the power to chirp it's position if stolen. If the tracker were installed in the bottom tube that goes from front to back and "sealed in, then it would be extremely difficult to remove. A blinky LED could make it obvious to potential thieves that the bike is locked and track-able. A phone app that notifies unplanned bike movement and then tracks the bike would make it easier to nab thieves in the act. Perhaps bike insurance companies could help design/distribute and sponsor such a device...

Well done Eilis, this is just the sort of information and encouragement that people need to get stuck into alternatives, BUT £9K including bits and bobs? Madness, how can they justify such a price? A new Kia Picanto is only twice that. (My old KP is worth £2.5K, my costs are tax/ins £200/yr, and we stretch the services in conjunction with our service garage). We use this car to transport elderly friends and family to the hospital and such, so no one needs to spend £40K on a car to drive to the shops. We need to stop people from being ripped off. Another thought is that "Mum" should ALWAYS wear hi-vis when transporting a child. A grey fleece just doesn't cut it, it hides her child from the front and puts them both at risk. Hi-vis should be mandatory for all cyclists (same for helmets), drivers have to wear seat belts, we all have to contribute. Great video, more like this, but please also do some vids riding in the rain, we get a lot in the UK and people should think about it before thinking that riding is an all-year-round joy, there are different kit and skills required to do it safely. Rural dwellers need cars though, my nearest town is 12 miles away.
