Whenever a droids memories are wiped, which is regarded as routine, even necessary for the droid's own benefit, the droid is effectively killed. The core programs are retained, but the personality is destroyed. And the body simply is used to host a new personality. So in every essential way, the C-3PO at the end of Revenge of the Sith is a different being than the one in the same body we see in A New Hope.

In the old EU, he got busy with, I believe, and had a son named Cyclops. And he may have had another son or grandson that had a suit of armor covered with lightsabers. It's been a few decades since I read any of those stories, so I may be off a little, but in old Canon he definitely got some.

I admit it. I'm an OG fan. Dyed in the wool and stubborn. I have no frame of referent for multitudes of canon/non-canon. I will, however, pass along an observation. "Attack Of The Clones" Geonosis battle has Mace dispatching Jango Fett. I remember hearing when Boba picked up the helmet things like: "His head is still in it"! Boba putting his head to his father's Mandalorian helmet is a powerful image to me, so here it is:
Watch the first time the helmet hits the ground. Before it lands, look at the right side of the screen. It's a shadowy image but yeah, that helmet's empty.
