I love how some guy yells "Go home/get out of here Miami Vice" at Guga and he's like "Yup this is exactly where I want to eat!" 😉

"Why is matcha so popular" after saying salmon sushi tasted better with matcha powder on it really shows the power of placebo.

I have been going to omoide yokocho for some 14 years now, and I have NEVER had a guy scream at me suggesting "I go home" the guy was NOT trying to be friendly more likely he was drunk :(

I have one tip for anyone traveling and planning to walk long distances at their destination. Before you go weeks or months before start walking a few miles every other day atleast. Prepare yourself. Once you get used to walking 5 to 10 miles or more it makes traveling so much more enjoyable. I have older family members who have to do this before trips.

What an incredible video! I loved how you explored Japanese cuisine, showing both the renowned restaurants and the more accessible ones. The quality of the images and your way of describing the dishes really makes us feel as if we were there experiencing each flavor. Congratulations on such engaging and informative content! I can't wait to see more videos like this.

I remembered my Japanese friend told me before that if I got to Japan if I see any food that's over 3000 yen and it's not seafood, then it's a tourist trap, or a fancy restaurant and told me not to eat there. 🤣

This is my favorite type of food. Channels like Japan Eat have showed me what to expect.

Sometimes how food tastes depends on how we think about it. I learned this when I stopped thinking of soy milk as milk (kinda nasty) and started thinking of it as bean juice (actually pretty good). Case in point, the super-fluffy pancakes: you said you were expecting something like American pancakes and were disappointed; you need to think of them as griddled soufflé instead, then the egg flavor is expected and they're suddenly not disappointing anymore. (Whether you like them or not is another story - plenty of people don't like the egginess of soufflé - but at least you'll know going in how much or little you're likely to like them.)

Fun little side note on donburi (the rice, meat, and egg bowl that your wife got): they're mostly named for the meat on the rice, like butadon for pork, nikudon for beef, katsudon for pork cutlet. However, if you get chicken, instead of being toridon (chicken bowl), it's called oyakodon (mother child bowl), because it's egg and meat, and the egg is a baby chicken.

Also, I highly recommend _not_ going to conveyor belt sushi in the US. We have good sushi places and conveyor belt sushi places, but not good conveyor belt sushi places. It's like they all decided that having the gimmick exempted them from having to make good food.

Confirmed my guess about the fluffy pancakes - they're super inflated, so it's largely air, and the rest is egg white protein, which gives a weird matress foam texture. Those looked better than many I've seen too.

I always thought and said that going up the mountain is the harder part than coming down. Mainly because that is where most of your energy is being used to climb one.
