Hard wired is better. It's inconvenient but better in my opinion. For the general user, wifi is better for them. But if you want the better performance and security. Hard wired all the way if possible.

Correctly if I am wrong. A wired router does only one function - routing. Wireless routers today are actually 3 or more components in one: Router, Switch, WiFi (+ dual-band, + NAS) access point. Wery often the wireless routers needs to be rebooted because too many operations assigned to one processor. Yes, ALL network appliances are small computers. I use to have Netgear RP114. It was working for 12 years with rebooting only when power outage. Unfortunately, it burned down internally. After I replaced with wireless I need to reboot every week or two.

Q2: Are VPN Routers any good?
