Energy medicine: The truth about energy healing & how it works

Energy medicine is possibly the most controversial field in modern medicine. But we hurt our patients more than help them if we ridicule their interests in healing energy without fully understanding the possible benefits (and lack of risks). This healing energy may be most important before and after surgery, or before a psychedelic experience.

Energy medicine is a holistic approach to health and wellness that focuses on the role of energy in the body. Despite being a controversial topic in western medicine, energy medicine has been used for centuries in various cultures around the world to explain the connection between the mind and body. Energy medicine works by manipulating the body's energy fields to achieve a positive effect on physical and mental health. Some examples of energy medicine practices include acupuncture, pranayama, qigong, reiki, and EMDR.

One of the key principles of energy medicine is the idea of invisible energy fields that flow through the body, such as qi, prana, pneuma, and animal magnetism. These are in contrast to ATP as the energy source of western medicine. These energy fields are thought to play a crucial role in our overall health and wellness. Some energy medicine practices, such as acupuncture and reiki, aim to balance these energy fields and promote the flow of energy throughout the body.

Another important aspect of energy medicine is the concept of chakras and dan tien, which are believed to represent the locations of energy in the body. Practitioners of energy medicine may use techniques such as visualization and meditation to stimulate and balance these energy centers.

Despite the lack of scientific evidence to support the existence of these invisible energy fields, the effectiveness of energy medicine has been demonstrated in various studies and anecdotal evidence. For example, acupuncture has been shown to provide relief from conditions such as chronic pain, depression, and nausea.

However, many in the western medical community remain skeptical of energy medicine and view it as a pseudoscience. The western biomedical model is limited in its understanding of the complex relationship between the mind and body, and tends to ignore the role of consciousness in health and wellness.

Despite the lack of understanding of the underlying mechanisms of energy medicine, many people continue to use it and experience positive results. Just like anesthesia and quantum mechanics, there are many things in science that we utilize without fully understanding the underlying process.

In conclusion, energy medicine offers a holistic approach to health and wellness that incorporates the mind, body, and spirit. While it may be controversial in western medicine, energy medicine has a long history of use and has been shown to provide relief for a variety of physical and mental health conditions. By embracing an integrated medical model that includes energy medicine, patients will likely benefit the most and achieve optimal health and wellness.

Such a shame that doctors like this are rare… all doctors should have this open mindset

I love your openness and willingness to think about and discuss topics that may not seem tangible in this day and time. Much respect!

Great video doc. I’m a Wiccan and work with energy as a foundation of my faith. I’ve been an empath and energy healer since I was a child. Holding my patient’s hand is something simple I can do in my ambulance and I will gladly do it if someone wants or needs me to.

Thank you so much for this. Im a newly trained reiki practitioners and ive been struggling on how to process, explain, and accept how this energy healing modality truly works and not feeling kringy because i truly dont have the answers or understand. What you explained about action potential within our cells is how i feel comfortable explaining reiki healing, because it makes sense to me and doesnt make me feel like im talking voodoo. You are a beautiful soul with a beautiful heart and mind. Thank you so much for sharing your perspectives and knowledge so freely.

My experience (so far) with Tai Chi. Just celebrated my three year anniversary for a kidney transplant. The transplant kidney given to me was from my wife of 35 years. Wow, Still amazed every time I think about it. Anyway, the immunosuppressant drugs had a much greater effect on my well being than I expected. Started Tai Chi in Jan of 23. Haven't missed a day. Amazed by how much Tai Chi has improved my mental, physical and psychological health in ways not easy for me to explain. Not sure how this happens when you move at the speed of a turtle. (I guess that may be why the turtle beats the rabbit (no, seriously))

The specific method I'm learning is 64 Movements of T'ai chi ch'uan, Guang Ping Yang Style. I’m about half way through learning the form. You can learn a few moves and loop them starting your first lesson. It is a combination of breathing as well as moving hands and feet in ways that take your body through a greater range of motion and coordination.

In 2010 I had to have my aortic valve replaced because I was born with a bicuspid valve and it had gone stenosis. I was going to die of sudden cardiac arrest and I didn’t know it until my heart murmur had gotten so loud that my boyfriend could hear it at night when I was sleeping. I was given a referral to a cardiologist by a walk-in clinic I went to for a sinus infection.

When the cardiologist saw the results of the echo cardiograph, he scheduled me with a surgeon immediately and I had the valve replaced three weeks later.

I was 60 at the time and in perfect health taking no prescription medication and eating a healthy diet and walking almost every day.

I had been extremely interested in energy healing and had taken several workshops to have some experience with what it felt like and how to do it.

The night before my surgery, I had a long conversation with a healer friend who was born with the natural ability to see and move energy.

She blessed the doctor and the entire staff who was going to be working on my and filled the entire operating theatre with White Light.

She told me she would be with me in the operating room, with her hands holding my head to support my heart while it was screaming because it didn’t know what was being done to it. Even though it was stopped and my body temperature was drastically lowered, my body knew what was going on and it was being traumatized.

When I woke up, I was being attended by two nurses in a darkened room and they were about to take the tube out of my throat.

As they gently pulled the tube from my throat, I immediately threw up and they were expecting it and cleaned me up immediately.

Even though it’s been 13 years since the surgery, I still have some PTSD and get stressed out easily by things and situations I had no problem with before.

When COVID came along, I did a tremendous amount of research about the shots they wanted everyone to take.

I had not taken a flu shot in 40 years and I wasn’t about to take this one.

I did a lot of study on how to strengthen my immune system and what I found out was the importance of having an alkaline overall system, which required me to give up sugar, rice and pasta and most breads.

I now start every day with the juice of one lemon in water that I distill myself and put through a Vitalizer to restructure it and add back the minerals that were removed by distilling it.

I would have to say I’m very healthy, especially after I quit all the pharmaceuticals that I was prescribed all the years after the surgery until the World Shutdown, especially the blood thinner which was causing internal bleeding of my veins and causing blood to pool in the heels of my feet. I haven’t been since one day since the Covid started and I refused to wear a mask unless I was Forced to in public.

I've been a 2nd level Reiki practitioner for over 20 years. Just 1 example of how powerful Reiki is: Right after I got my 1st level, I burned my shin...a small 1st degree burn with pain. I placed my hands over the area & did Reiki for 20 minutes. When I removed my hands, the burn was completely gone & I was pain-free.

The reason we should not talk about it more, is that some people will go to energy healing as a first point of call, instead of going to actual doctors. This can only delay intervention and treatment of potentially serious conditions.

A couple hundred years ago they didn't have a way to measure radio waves. DO they say that this means radio waves didn't exist then? The close mindedness of some scientists and medical practitioners astonishes me. They seem to take something not being proven as proof against it's existence.

Actually, it’s not crazy at all but reductionism makes it hard to see beyond these divisions in medicine. As a bedside clinician in an academic medical system, discussing comprehensive bio psychosocial medical principles especially in pain, psychiatric, and autonomic pathophysiology is received quite well by patients who then tell my colleagues, which influences my fellow doctors more than what I do. I employ Osteopathic (NeuroMusculoSkeletal) Medicine principles to highlight a conversation about integrating physiology and anatomy as it relates to functioning in a conversation about a disease, it’s treatment, and an approach to health. Energy Medicine uses a different language but translating it is undeniably logically. Glad you do to. And patients / people feel better talking about things they can understand

As a biomedical scientist and healer myself, I appreciate your approach. There is great power in allowing space for the placebo effect (which we dont understand either).

I trained in healing touch during my nursing career. We had multiple Drs who would pray with their patients in the OR and used healing touch prior to surgery and in the recovery room.

You are so wonderful. Thanks for explaining medicine so well. I could understand what you say. I have many medical issues coming up. It makes me nervous but listening to you makes me calm down. Thank you. ❤

There was research done that split First Responder Medics into 2 groups.
1 group was given absolutely no instructions.
The other group was told to speak only positively from the second they made contact with patients.
Researchers followed both groups on their daily shifts.
Results were obvious: the second, positive group's patients did statistically better in all areas of healing.
Do not know if this research impacted standard training for everyone in medicine, but I was profoundly impacted by this study that I learned when I was in undergrad psychology and still growing in the knowledge of health and healing.
I would appreciate you disseminating this research and advocating for its use as standard practice. It should not have to be requested by the patient ❤.

I am open to anything, especially new. This is deep when you think of it in this perspective, especially thinking down to cellular levels. The not knowing is scary. I would love for something to help with chronic pain and fibromyalgia and understand it better.
