Deep breathing and having somebody with a calm voice talk to you will make you feel better in a lot of situations, even for pain. Controlled breathing is really helpful for pain actually. Thats probably why these people felt better if indeed they did. Particularly the woman with neck pain. Most people have tension in their shoulders and neck from stress because life sucks.
