I own a eco and I get 47mpg, I have had a tall friends in the back just fine, also I am 6, 2" and this car sits me right unlike a lot of other cars of the same class that felt small.

The Cobalt was a substantial improvement to the Caviler and the Cruze is a substantial improvement to the Cobalt. GM is finally learning to make great small cars.

38 MPG on the road is "mediocre"  since when ?  I think Consumer Reports is "owned" by Japan Inc.

I average 37mpg with my 1.4L Cruze. Pretty good I'd say.

Is it true that it doesn't have cruise control? Odd how it's called 'cruze' with no cruise control?

would like to see how supple its suspension is on the cratered roads of my town.

I've driven the Cruze, it's a nice car, but its geared more towards young couples just starting a family...I like my lighter '12 Focus more. I'd have to agree with CR, its nice to drive, it feels substantial, but they are right about it's shortcomings. If it was lighter weight, it would be far more competitive.

The new civic has not even been tested yet. And you are disappointed? Manual mirrors? What? How much more would it have cost like a $1.00?

GM hypes pre-production cars way too early that by the time they are released they are already outclassed.

Actually, Consumer Reports changed its reviews since 2008 for the favor of European cars due to people whining about them favoring Japanese cars. In fact American cars are at the same level with the European cars in many aspects The Consumer Reports does not advertise the ownership cost as they should. When it comes to ownership cost a diesel is barely cheaper than a car that uses premium gas due to long term effects of gas and car price.

The point is the cruze was designed and meant to be marketed to the younger generation who want a little more from a smaller car, and by more they mean not quite as bargain basement as years past. I test drove one, It was okay but not for me I was coming from a suzuki forenza which is a rebadged chevy/daewoo product. Qualitywise yes it was a step up but did not justify 23- 25000 dollars for me at 20 years old, and didnt hit my awd checkmark. The seats were fine but i felt confined in my position

I thought this was a good review except in regard to the fuel mileage. I have an 2014 Eco trim with the 6 speed manual...and I get all around 39/40 in the summer and 37/38 in the winter. This is with highway driving at 70 mph. If you drive it smart, that doesn't mean hypermiling...you can get these numbers easy.

@TripleXXX8700

I just don't like how Honda didn't upgrade the engine output or switch to 6 speed transmissions. The Si is the biggest disappointment tho as they put the 2.4L engine from the TSX in it so its lost the 8000 rpm redline for just 4 more hp. I just feel like they played it too safe when they should have tried to keep the Civic class leading. It was in 06 but now the 2012 Focus is the new benchmark.

It's funny how people say CR is owned by Japanese companies. In reality, they go out, buy the cars like normal people, do thorough tests and tell it like it is. If something is good, they mention it, if something stands out in a wrong way, they mention it. They're unbiased, the same can't be said for the motormouths at car and driver.

This is a great improvement over the recession made Cobalt. Had this been the cavaliers replacement Chevy would have been near the top of the class. However, Chevy once again is behind the pack. To me it locks like a jacked up Honda Accord. The Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 3, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, and even the Kia Forte seem like better buys.They are more efficient, either cheaper or about the same as the cruze, and are kind of peppy. GM is improving but they still need to do better!!!!

I agree. A Mazda3 would probably rank above it to, although I cannot stand the smiley face grille on the car now. Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, and possibly Kia Forte, are the only cars I can see the cruze topping in it's class.

@TomOzzy123 well this guys are engineers. they know what they saying. and he said that the cruze is plesant to drive and handles well. just bc he ddnt say much about the car you own, it doesnt mean they are fake and only praise the koreans and Japanese.
