Square Enix Scrapes Western Games Off the Bottom of Its Shoes.

Square Enix is getting out of publishing western style video games. They've sold their Western gaming division to Embracer -- the same company that bought Dark Horse Comics for $300 million. Why? Marvel's Avengers cost them MILLIONS. So it's likely Final Fantasy remakes and Kingdom Hearts sequels from here on out. Then we talk about Yuji Naka slamming Square Enix and blaming them for the disaster that was Balan Wonderworld.

I always tell people, get the physical copy of a game. You are just one "Update" away from a cloud game losing its license and being unplayable.

I remember when Squaresoft became Square Enix, it was a horrible move. They got too arrogant and started buying up everything they could at the time.

On the one hand Squenix is not that good at management (Final Fantasy XIV is great in SPITE of the publisher), but on the other the western devs tend to be woke so in the end I still have doubts that this will help the western gaming industry.

I hope Japan wakes up and stops trying to appeal to the West. They used to run the show, now they try to play catch up but it's their unique style is what made them lovable. Just keep doing that

The fact that Miyazaki is damning them pretty much says everything. We already know how Japan feels about their actions, at least in general. So if they want to stay relevant to the long term, it's going to have to be some pretty serious reshuffling going on here.

The effects of higher management is so surreal sometimes. You have some of the greats creators wasted so badly that the end product isn't even recognizable.

The ironic thing about it, it's all to make money yet it doesn't. Square is an interesting case study. They have some games that are great, and then pay to pay games made side by side in the same company. You know which games the exacts touched.

Only game series they haven't ruined for me yet is Dragon Quest, but we will see how much longer that will be.

Accurate language translating and uncensored works will help prevent piracy. That is what Japan should have learned. If the series is good in its home country, if people from other countries love it, import the copies as they are with no need for changes for the sake of country censorship nor politics.
