The caves of Kiev Lavra ( Monastery)
The Kiev Cave Monastery is a troglodyte monastery founded in 1051 by the venerable Anthony, an orthodox monk from Greece. This monastery grew rapidly on two levels: the Nearby Caves and the Distant Caves, two complexes of narrow corridors and Spartan cells, dug in the hill, extending for hundreds of meters, and connected by a tunnel. The monks eventually left the caves around the year 1075, and the place turned into a catacomb where abbots and monks were buried. Underground churches have been dug next to the tombs, and singing services are celebrated. It is these songs that have been used for this film.

So they don't show how the monks used to live in the caves anymore? Before 1988 it was like a museum with guided excursions, they showed how the monks really lived underground in tiny cells they dug in the walls of the narrow tunnels.

I visited this beautiful place a couple of months ago. I also visited motherland statue and holodomor memorial. I hope ukraine will defeat the invaders 💙💛🙏

It's a spectacular place to see in person. Highly recommended. When I visited in the mid-90's cameras were not permitted. There wasn't electrical lighting and much of it was not white washed like in the video either.
