The small-scale industrial sector plays a key role in the growth of Indian economy and many women who are involved in this sector are emerging as successful entrepreneurs contributing to the increase in our country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Although in the recent years, many Indian women have attained empowerment in terms of educational and socio-economic aspects, there are many challenges and discrimination that the women still face on a routine basis in the entrepreneurship industry. Many women report cheating and abuse by customers & suppliers, and face difficulties while marketing the finished products from their business units.

In extensively male-dominated business sectors, female entrepreneurs frequently face gender bias, abuse and challenges in getting capital funding for their startups. Another significant issue that women entrepreneurs face is the lack of family support in traditional cultures like ours. As a woman’s responsibility is primarily deemed as taking care of the family and her children, she finds less time to devote to her business. But the scenario is changing as many men from this generation are becoming more supportive of their partners’ business campaigns, realizing the importance of women’s contribution in their family’s financial growth.

Watch this segment of #VaangaSinthikalam as Ms. Sharon Angel discusses with few women entrepreneurs on the challenges that they face with their business startups on a regular basis, the lack of support along with the bullying they encounter, how these challenges can be overcome and how the scenario is changing rapidly with modernisation, educational development and by acquisition of new skills.
