He's from my Mamma's hometown of Albany Kentucky! "The Appalachian Storyteller" YouTube channel did a video on ol Champ not long ago. I still have a lot of relation in Monticello, Somerset and Albany named Ferguson, as a matter of fact there's a Ferguson Kentucky there close by also. I absolutely love going back to visit Clinton County, "Where the mountains meet the lakes" dead center between lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow Lake, absolutely gorgeous part of the country, that's for sure. Thank you for another great video my friends and GOD BLESS 🙏❤️✌️

Tinker Dave Beaty' s Uncle David Beaty Sr. was married to my 6th great aunt. His brother George was the father to David Crockett " Tinker Dave" Beaty. The last name was pronounced as Bay-ty. I also had a 7th cousin, Andrew Jackson Zorel Stephens, who was married to Tinker Dave's sister Charlotte Jane Lottie Stephens Beaty.

You might want to check out "Beanie Short, " another Confederate "killer" around the Cumberland River in Monroe County. He was much like Champ. I have done considerable research on this man. WOW! He was colorful.

Excellent video. I think the war gave him an excuse to be the killer he was. Happy New Year Heather and Leo

I am from this area (Burkesville) just 10 miles from the Clinton County line. I may even be a descendant of Tinker Dave Beatty (though ideologically on the same side as Champ Ferguson). Around here we pronounce Dave Beatty's last name "BAY-tee" My connection to Tinker Dave comes through my great-great grandfather John Conatser who's mother was a Beatty. According to the local story Dave Beatty had no interest whatsoever in serving on either side when the War for Southern Independence broke out.

Champ had on two or three occasions pressed Beatty to join the Confederate guerillas. Beatty kept saying he had no interest in the War. Then one day Ferguson and some of his boys rode onto Beatty's farm, and calling Dave out, informed him "You need to pick a side Dave Beatty or leave Tennessee". To emphasize his point Champ and his men left Beatty's farm, but went to a place where Beatty ran a heard of cattle. They killed a few of Beatty's cattle and dressed them out for food.

When Dave Beatty learned of this, he finally took a side -- whichever side was opposite the one Champ Ferguson was on. Honestly the my take on it all was that this was more of a FEUD between Ferguson and Beatty than for the higher ideals of Union or Confederacy. But I may be wrong, after all Beatty's men DID run a scouting mission for Union forces further east than their regular ranging area. This may also explain WHY my great great grandfather turned a TRAITOR to his State and his Country (the CONFEDERATE States of America), as I believe it possible that Dave Beatty may have been his uncle. Also the photo you show as "Dave Beatty" is the WRONG one. Tinker Dave was NOT the fellow with the good shock of hair and beard, but the clean shaven baldy sitting on our right of that gentleman.

People don’t realize how horrible the Civil War was here in the mountains of of eastern Kentucky
A lot of these outlaws used the war to settle vendettas with other families
Women and Children were fair game just the same as soldiers

A person can skip to different parts, why not list everything that is known and have a long version and a cut version

I am related to William Frogg. This is a good documentary but she is pronouncing Frogg wrong. It is a Scottish name pronounced Frodge or like fridge but just replace the I with an o.
