Change the Default Documents Folder (and other folders) Location to a Different Drive in Windows 11

Показать описание
By default, Windows will store your documents in the Documents (My Documents) folder located on the C drive under your username. If you have a separate drive that you would rather store your documents on yet still be able to save to the Documents folder then its easy to change its location.

You can also do this for the Videos, Pictures, Downloads, Music and Desktop folders. This will also work the same way for Windows 10 computers.

Here is a writeup on the process.

I unlinked my onedrive in my google account in settings and advanced settings and changed it to ask where to download before downloading and took away permission in my laptop for onedrive access but now only have the option of one drive or my os (c) drive

The Documents properties window doesn't have a location tab for me. The General Tab has the location of the folder on C: but doesn't allow for any editing. Am I doing something wrong or has Microsoft changed something?

Thanks for this video. I have a brand new PC with an SSD and much larger hard drive, so moving large folders to the hard drive is a real bonus!

Nice video. I am looking a doing something similar. Want to remove onedrive from the address. When I do it ask me to move the files but I have similar in the folder I want to copy to. Will it copy over older files or just move files not in the new folder.

i initially tried moving these folder just to the "e" drive and i ran into issues.. instead i created all the folder names like they were already named in the c drive and then moved the c/users/username/documents folder to the e/documents and it works like a charm

I get a message stating “can’t move folder because there’s a folder in the same location that cant be redirected. Access denied.” What do I do when this happens? I don’t even know what folder they’re referring to.

Why is it that almost every 'help' session I try on my computer does not look the same, thus get stalled out on the fix before starting lol?
On properties there is no 'location'.

Hi, I'm always getting an error message "there is another folder in the location I'm trying to move it in that can't be redirected". What can I do to move the file?? Thanks!

How about if I want that new documents location to be called something other than "Documents"? Like say I want it to be called "A_Documents".

Thanks
