The map joke is genius. As the Earth is a three-dimensional oblate spheroid, translating it into a two-dimensional image generates distortions. Cartographers create what are called "map projections" with specific distortions depending on the map's audience and function.

There is effectively no way to map the Earth with 100% accuracy on a two-dimensional image. Therefore, a news network where only confirmed facts are reported wouldn't show a two-dimensional interpretation of the Earth.
