Triple mag mount works well for me, even with an 80m Ampro whip. Also, worth mentioning that the 7100 really needs the full 13.8 volts, or the output drops quite a lot, so if using from a leisure battery when portable, a battery booster would be useful, I believe you stock them as well ! Thanks for sharing. I have a 01 XJ with a 4 inch lift kit and 32 inch tires. I had a HF radio in it but it developed corrosion in the radio so I had to send it off for repair. I think I will do like you and use it as a mast like you. Enjoyed the video!

Nice video Tony, as always . IC-7100 on the upside it has a microphone socket in the head unit so no need for a remote cable, less chance of RF pick up . downside no internal tuner unit - LDG-IT100 works well allowing wider bandwidth matching 2 antenna sockets and vhf/UHF capability makes a great one-box solution . You've got to angle the head unit slightly forward so that you can see the legends on the buttons. Kenwood TS-480SAT is a really great Hf mobile HF-6m with internal tuner unit - a dream, easy to see.and operate. only downside is no mic socket on the head unit . - love HF mobile Richard G3UGF

Great information and advice Tony as usual. As an avid HF mobile user, I still have Icom IC7000 radios for my mobile set-up Full HF/UHF/VHF in a package that has a pop-off front - if you can find the separation cable...…. There is no modern equivalent available (an IC705 with a linear is the only combination that might be pragmatic but it doesn't have a pop-off font.) The Tarheel II with a Target Tuner controller is the best antenna combination I have found. Grounding the vehicle body to the antenna is absolutely paramount. If you guys at ML&S have any influence - tell the "Big 3" to make a new IC7000 equivalent!!

Kenwood ts480sat for me, knocks the socks off the 7100.
For anyone looking to mount the head units RAM mounts are spot on for a secure installation.
Antenna's I use the diamond Hf fx and CL range.

Do you still do real HF Mobile aerials as in the Hustler range and rear tow hook mount? I still run a full set of G Whips with Tow hook mount with the FT 891

Whatever happened to the 4 band G whip. Got 59 one morning in Swansea town from the Channel Islands!
