I love that photo of Riley with her arms flung into the air. The oatmeal bars are a great idea. I won't waste batter, either. There's always an adult who will eat one of the larger muffins. Kids need texture in their food. Look where giving Riley all purees got her. Lumps of banana are fine in the flapjack banana egg mixture without flour. Good to get additives and sugar out of foods. Watermelon is mostly water. If it's sweet, it's the perfect treat and the cold is good for teething.

Made the oatmeal muffins instead with: 1 banana, 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup red beets and no spinach. Baked in oil coated large muffin tin filled to the way up and baked for 17.5 mins. My 1.5 year old went crazy for them. Thank you for the suggestion!

You definitely are doing a great job at making your own baby food. Not only are you doing good to your baby's immune system, you are also saving money in doing so.

My baby will be 6 months tomorrow so this YouTube recommendation was right on time! We just started solids, I steamed and pureed carrots. I didn't make food for my now 10 year old son when he was a baby but I am giving it a try this time. Thanks for sharing!

For a baby under one, I would definitely replace the cows milk (in the oatmeal bars) for oatmeal, almond milk or something non dairy. It's my understanding that babies under one don't digest it as well, hence why we're encouraged to wait until 1 year old. These recipes are great though, I gave and still give my two year old lots of similar items (although he isn't a carb lover so many carbs are a hit or miss). You are doing everything you can to give Jackson a chance to eat better than Riley so don't be hard on yourself. The best part is that it's rubbing off on her so double win in your book. All we can do is try our best and make changes to try to get better result each time.

Kayla I love your videos! We should all make our own baby food it is soooo simple and nutritious. I know this one is old but for anyone watching one pointer I have is to get a small 3 stack steamer and then you can steam multiple foods at once. Also steaming is faster and retains nutrients. If you boil use the water that you boil to blend the foods to keep nutrients. I steam and don’t use water to blend although hard (must stir) it’s worth it. And frozen veggies is actually much fresher.

You can 100% leave the peels on the apples! I put my chopped up apples in a pot with a bit of apple pie spice and lemon juice and then cook it down for an hour or so. It works so well and I barely have to do any prep!

Wanted to say, Kayla, when you said that you will start BabyLedWeaning, I was like Ok I am not gonna watch it. But I gave it a shot, and what I saw I really liked. I liked your idea to mix finger food with purées. I see that it is less stressful for mama during the transition to solids. And I am sure I will use it too with my second one. I even took couple ideas for my daughter who is already 16 months. Thank you!!!
