Everyone must suffer one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret

The most infuriating thing about procrastination is that when i eventually start doing the thing, I always say to myself “this isn’t as bad as I thought” and end up staying for hours and quite enjoying it. I go to bed, wake up and boom, it’s back again.

Stephen King says even after all his decades of writing, the first 10 minutes when he sits down at his desk stink like a wet fish.

If your reading this you are loved and the pain you are feeling will become dull and won’t be as sharp as it is now tomorrow

I’m literally procrastinating by watching this video

I think it's different for all of us because the reason for your procastination can come from so many different sources. But my experience is that you cannot overcome procrastination by reading/hearing about how to overcome procrastination. You need to gradually expose yourself to the feelings and thoughts you are trying to escape and learn to live with/process/overcome whatever pressure you are feeling right now.

It’s called body doubling.

I love employing assistants to help me work that I “could” do myself. But just having them there makes me so much more productive than j would be left to my own devices that it makes them more than worth it.

It’s a funny concept as a boss to hire an assistant to essentially boss you around and hold you accountable but it works

As a chronic procrastinator (who will overcome it), Tim's description here is immensely useful. so much so that I took notes on it.

So procrastination happens in the absence of accountability? Makes sense.

When I build cars I take one system at at a time, setup motor, then plump fuel, then do the electrical, then the suspension, then the brakes, then the aesthetics, then the drive. It can be in any order, can take as long as you wish, however you must tackle something in an orderly manner. Before you know it the car is done!

Not sure I understand the reference to duct tape but I think humans are just more motivated by avoiding a negative outcome than they are by creating a positive one, as Tim illustrated.

My “duct tape” is to find something even less desirable to do. Suddenly the first thing I was procrastinating getting done is a distraction from the even less desirable thing.

Being compelled by shame is a brutal way forward. The starving hunter isn't compelled by shame, he is motivated

Motivation is hard to muster when the outlook for any success or reward is bleak.
