My mother was led to a lead lined room with a lead door. She was handed a closed lead box and told not to open it until she the door was shut. She was taking a radiation therapy pill for her thyroid cancer.

My grandfather invented the delivery system of those machines. When he was 87 he had bladder cancer and received radiation therapy. He and the techs had a great time discussing the engineering of his designs.

My dad used to design labyrinths and radiotherapy suites for cobalt 60 units and linacs (linear accelerators - sounds like you had one of these). As a seasoned medical physicist he had a shockingly blase attitude to radiation safety! He had CA several times in his life (and it may have had a hand in his death) but I'm always proud he spend his career helping others to fuck cancer.

I forgot the sound until this moment (I had 30 external beat radiation sessions 4 years ago) and Hank did a 100% dead on impression of the machine 😆

I work with these machines every day… I’ve always wondered what it sounds like inside the room when the Linac is on. I agree with those saying it needs to make lightsaber noises!

Usually you can request music so if you wanted Star Trek phaser sounds or TARDIS noises, it’s probably doable

Hank’s cancer journey ended up helping me out because I got diagnosed with cancer a couple months ago, so I came into chemo a little more prepared than I would have been otherwise. And, I’m doing radiation this fall, so this is also very informative as well as fairly funny
