A tick bit my dad 6 years ago and he became completely deaf overnight. He went to see two different doctors who sent him away, saying it was just his age. After two weeks of getting nowhere with his incompetent GPs, I persuaded him to go to the hospital. There he was actually treated as an emergency. After an MRI and multiple tests they gave him massive doses of steroids.

The ENT specialist was furious that the other doctors had dismissed my dad, as he should have been given the steroids immediately in order to save as much of his hearing as possible. The fact that treatment was delayed for so long meant that the majority of his ability to ever hear again was completely wiped out, irrevocably. He has been left almost totally deaf.

Ticks are the absolute worst…along with arrogant, incompetent doctors!

I have lasting neurological, immune system, and arthritic difficulties due to Lyme disease. I contracted it when I was 8, and didn’t find out for years, by that point the damage was done, and now the effects are permanent. It took a way a large part of my childhood, I would never wish that upon anybody else. The day ticks disappear is the day I rejoice.

as an African I would decimate mosquitos which are more deadlier than ticks (mostly killing kids)

It's tricky business though. There's always the possibility that you inadvertently help them evolve into super ticks by culling the ones that aren't resistant to conventional methods.

Ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, people who don’t use their turn signals.

Now I'm reminded of the FRIGGIN DALAI LAMA declaring that mosquitoes have no souls and are fair game.

As someone who lost a year of my life to late stage Lyme disease I support this message

As someone who likes bugs and some arachnids, I can say for sure that I wouldn't be upset if ticks suddenly stopped existing

As a person with a phobia of ticks I am simultaneously approving this message and having a breakdown over that first bit

That's one reason I love opposums! 1 adult opposum can devour up to 5000 ticks a week.

This is fun to consider in the context of the much later video on mammal biomass. We once reduced the mammal biomass of Earth by HALF. Drove 178 species to extinction just by accident. We can adapt, and the biosphere can adapt, to the absence of ticks.

As someone who lost most of her memory from untreated Lyme disease, I can get on board with this.

My dog died from being infested with ticks and no matter how we got rid of em they kept coming back, it broke my heart and honestly would without hesitation kill all ticks

I work in wildlife conservation and I am with you on this. I would take out ticks, mosquitoes, and fleas.
Edit: This reply thread is proving to be very educational. I should clarify that I am not a biologist. I've done some limited research based on some of your posts. I've also mentioned our hypothetical scenario to my boss and asked his opinion. Based on all that, I'm revising my stance on mosquitoes to only getting rid of those species of mosquitoes that carry diseases that affect humans.
