Blaming architects for potential building failures is 100% irresponsible and uninformed. *I* am an architect and I have always worked very closely with the structural engineers to bring my building designs to fruition, and I have NEVER compromised human life and safety, let alone blatantly disregarded my engineers' advice. To do so for the sake of design alone would violate every code of ethics any/all architects are sworn to uphold and protect. Yes, there may be a few egotistical architects that are willing to violate those ethical codes for the sake of seeing their designs built, but they are few and far between and thankfully most cities and nations on this planet have building codes in place that catch and prohibit unsafe buildings from being built. There is only ONE purpose to ANY building...to protect the lives within it as best as is possible, given the known forces of nature that may come into play across the building's lifetime. Form follows function and any architect that fails to remember that rule is not an architect, but a fool attempting to make a "statement" that gratifies his/her own ego and completely ignores the purpose of the building from the get go.

The AK earthquake was a 5 minute shake. Here in AK we had a 7.0 in 2018 that caused no structural damage but a 7.0 in California topples buildings and highways. Builders in the lower 48 states need to find out why.

It's always a rising risk, , to say its increasing is like saying we have to breath oxygen, , it's undeniable, , the problem is we will never know when a megaquake will occur, , and don't think that the use of averages means something because it's not reliable, , the averages only describes the past not the future, , even then it's not very viable information because there have been quakes that have occurred a couple years apart, , while others have been centuries apart, , the truth is that they're incredibly random and will occur whenever it wants
