Is The Cascadia Megaquake Closer Than We Think?

If the LA wildfires have taught us anything, it’s that disaster is no longer a question of if, but when. Now, northwest of the fire-damaged areas lies an even deadlier force of nature—the Cascadia Subduction Zone. For centuries, tension has been building beneath the Pacific Northwest. Experts warn this sleeping giant could unleash a magnitude 9.0 earthquake. The aftermath? A tsunami capable of obliterating coastal towns, crippling Washington, Oregon, and Northern California, and leaving millions stranded. In 1700, this fault line created 'ghost forests' of millions of dead trees and tsunamis that crossed the Pacific. Today, the stakes are higher than ever, with lives and hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure on the line. Is the Cascadia Megaquake closer than we think? Join us as we break down the signs, the science, and what it means for the Pacific Northwest.

Hey Squad! If you liked the video, we would love for you to share it with your friends or on other social networks like Facebook, Reddit Instagram, Tik Tok and Twitter, etc.. No matter when it happens..today or in a hundred years- it will still be a complete surprise. I dread the day, hoping I & my family have grown old and long gone before it happens..

I can already foresee the streamers and influencers posing as the tsunami arrives

I don't think it will be of any surprise at all. We get it drummed into our heads a few times a year with hour-long Science Channel specials narrated by Johnathan Frakes and vids like these. As a born, raised, and still Oregonian: Believe me. We all know it's going to happen. We won't be surprised by that.

Rather, I think we have low-balled everything about it, every estimation is tracking so very far towards the favorable, what will surprise us is how catastrophically bad it will really be in both the immediate aftermath and long-term recovery.

I love how they tell us it will happen within the next 50 years.. every year... for the last 50 years... and for the next 50 years... until it happens.

Re: Edit... What i am saying here is how funny that we SHOULD be hearing that it might happen in the next 20 years not 50.. because 30 years ago scientists told us it would happen in 50 so I'm just doing the math folks. It appears as the years go on and on, the great countdown hath never started but rather farted. This edit is brought to you by Ambien. You're welcome.

Guy made the classical error assuming that the megaquake happens every 256 years. It doesn't. Some intervals had been as long or longer than 500 plus years. Others had been less than 200 years. An earthquake, no less than a volcanic eruption, doesn't operate on a time clock. It happens when the faultline stress increases past the load bearing capacity of the tectonic plates' points of contact.

That big earthquake in the Cascadia was reported to be coming in 6 MONTHS, that was July 2017.

No matter where you live, there's some sort of nature disaster that can occur in that area, if natural death doesn't take us off this earth nature will. So maintain a healthy relationship with God and enjoy life while you can. No matter where you decide to move something is going to threaten the area.

I live on the WA coast, and this is just something that we all just kinda live with.

What am I hearing about a volcano off the coast of Oregon? Could it be a contributing factor to the cascadia fault line? They're all probably interconnected in some way.

As a South African, thank f*ck for Madagascar. It doesn't completely nullify the effects, but they significantly soften the blow before tsunamis and hurricanes reach us, so as devastating as this big one would be it won't hit us as hard as many other countries

At minue 00:30, why are you showing a video of Rio de Janeiro which is in South America and on the Atlantic coast? What does it have to do with Cascadia?

While I tend to agree, the professionals say the volcano isn’t a problem. My thoughts are about cause and effect, as in volcano’s don’t just erupt, their flanks can cause massive landslides as well. That helped give England a HUGE tsunami, was in prehistory, but we’ve uncovered the remains of villages. Happened on the Eastern coastline.

No, "Entire villages belonging to the Hawaiian First Nations" were NOT wiped out on Vancouver Island in 1700 (1:42). This is another dreadful AI creation.

One mistake people make with tsunami's is when the water retreats away from the coast people stop and watch this is the moment you should be running to high ground

Some say the end is near
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon
I certainly hope we do
I sure could use a vacation

Golly neat stuff ... Yep Scott larson im with you on the Ocean volcano off Oregon coast being a cotributing factor . I spent summer 2007 in Bandon Oregon and payed attention to the animals as much as i had available ...

Disaster is a question of preparedness and ability to proactively work toward minimisation. Our recent disasters have seemed to be woefully, incompetently and possibly purposefully driven. We are watching.
