I have noticed in the comments lately that a lot of folks had questions about basic sponge filtration maintenance, so I figured today is as good a day as any for a "quick and dirty" on sponge filtration care.

I've always been a fan of sponge filters, and as you demonstrated so easy to clean when you're doing a water change. So good to see you scootin' up and down a ladder and hear the family is on the mend as well.

Hi Rachel, I have seen other videos that make sponge filter cleaning into a small project. I prefer to do it the same way you do in an aquarium only bucket with tank water. It takes all of 5 minutes and you’re done.i hope you are feeling better as well as your husband is having a speedy recovery. Thanks very much for sharing. I enjoy your tips video the best. i love sponge filters. they are so gentle and are great for fish that dont like strong flows. are a great price and dont need to be replaced as often as other filters and their media do plus arent as dangerous as hob filters are to the fish. my betta has been so happy and active since i switched to one.

Thanks for this video. Helped me put my mind at ease for the time being on my shrimp tank. Recently a couple of my berried shrimp dropped their shrimplets and atm my sponge is covered w shrimplets😂😂😂. I don't wanna bug them this week. My bubbles are still going strong so good for a while.

I have hobs in my bigger tank. I noticed if they are dirty i have barely any flow...
