BOSS VE 8 - Exploring Output Settings

The Boss VE-8 is one of the best pedals I have in my arsenal, but tends to be a bit confusing to use. I connect all the outputs to a Zoom R24 to record what's going on as I walk you through the different output settings.

Thank you, Deb! This was, as always very helpful for me. I've been wanting to add an XLR line selector pedal to record guitar without vocals, which would easily be $150-200. I never used the loops on my VE-8 because I loop in an RC-300, so you showed me with the vocal selector off on my VE-8 I can singing play while only recording my guitar, which is perfect for a lot of my songs and now i can experiment more with my options without dropping more on gear. Thank you for helping all of us with such clear instructions and well produced recordings.

This is a super handy feature of this unit. I've got it set to run Guitar L-XLR Vocal R-XLR, and guitar+vocal out the line for my wedge.

is there a way to output the computer usb audio out throught the guitar outputs without the vox or guitar being heard. As in, guitar and vox outputed to the two XLR outputs seperately, and just computer audio outputted through the jack outs?

This has answered an important question for me! i want xlr mono direct out for vocals and same guitar at church and to record youtube vids at home by usb! sounds like this thing does it all!

Deb, I just subscribed.I enjoy yor topics and instruction. Maybe you can answer this for me. Is there a way to connect the out put ofthe boss directly into the ipad (Using the cck cable and perhaps a conversion cable on the xlr). I would like to record a video of me singing and playing the guitar using the video camera on my ipdad. I currently do this now with the tc helicon Play acoustic, which similar to the Boss as far as vocal processing.My problem is latency between the my playing /singing and the actual video.Do you think it’s possible to do this without daw software or DI? Or without recording audio then video and syncing?

Deb, do you notice a volume drop using the VE8? When do when I go direct into my Alto Busker portable speaker. Also, I have changed the settings to separate the inst and mic channels but still only have one knob controlling both channels. How can I separate them?

My VE 8 is arriving today and I plan on experimenting with the guitar mono out via XLR or Line out to determine which input my Bose S1 Pro likes better for the guitar. I have read that there should be less ground floor noise when the guitar is sent via 
XLR. But on a side note, I wonder if setting both the XLR and Line to 4 so each has L Guitar mono and R Vocal mono versus setting XLR to 8 (vocal mono) and Line to 9 (guitar mono) has any affect on sound or volume of the output signal volume. I imagine the output should be consistent whenever mono is selected in all cases.
