Conic Sections , Ellipse : Find the Foci of an Ellipse.
Here we are given the equation of an ellipse and proceed to find the foci.
Notice that we do have the given form as mentioned in the thumbnail if we simply swap our first two terms.
Notice that this ellipse will centered at the origin and since the larger number is in the denominator of the fraction involving y, we know that the ellipse will be more stretched vertically.
I give a quick graph of the ellipse as well and include the foci.

Man...your stuff is always so good.  "we tend to write it so the larger denominator is first".   But would love a repeat of the intuition of why c^2=a^2-b^2.  I'll keep searching.  Hope you are still thriving.

I’m confused still, but is the a^2 and b^2 supposed to be flipped in the standard formula for ellipse?

((x-h)^2)/a^2 + ((y-k)^2)/b^2 = 1

I’m still learning this so do correct me if I’m wrong but, if that’s right then shouldn’t the foci of the ellipse be positioned horizontally rather than vertically since “a” is the horizontal measurement while “b” is the vertical measurement of an ellipse?
