He was angry that his home state of Maryland was under military control. And he didn’t see the difference in Lincoln being killed than soldiers being killed and he viewed Lincoln as being a cause of many more deaths than the average soldier . He is an interesting character. So cowardly to shoot someone in the back of the head though

Booth killed Lincoln for the same reason that the south seceded from the Union and the cause of the Civil War, slavery ! Booth was from Maryland, a friend of Edward Gorsuch and family. The Gorduch family well known for their raid on the farming community of Christiana, Pennsylvania where they tried to recapture a group of enslaved individuals. (The Christiana Resistance, 11 September 1851) The Gorsuch gang were met with resistance from the former enslaved and their Quaker neighbors. Edward Gorsuch was killed in the failed kidnapping of Africans. The Federal treason trial held in Philadelphia ended with all of the Africans and Quakers being acquitted. The defense being led by attorney Thaddeus Stevens, the author of the 13th. and 14th Amendments.

Just a guess, but maybe it was because he just didn’t like Lincoln.

Third in line for the Presidency is not the Secretary of State (Seward)… it is the Speaker of the House.

Could Lincoln's wound have been treated by modern medicine?

There were A LOT of people scared about the powers of the executive and centralized government, just like today. Only at this time there was a whole lot more at stake than today. Lincoln was lucky he was killed when he was, it isnt very likely the south would be on board with his reconstruction plans and lincoln would either not be interested in fighting further with the south over infastructure, or he would be hijacking the whole plan with an exec order. Lincoln had SOOO much political swing after the CW. He was fortunate he got to do the best thing he could with it. Not use it at all.

I think he was an agent for the Confederate secret service, which was given heavy aid by the British in Canada.
