Australia Follows Canada: Puts Limit on International Students | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Australia has become the latest country to limit the number of international students it will accept. Canberra sets a limit of 270,000 foreign students for 2025. Canada had taken a similar step this January. Why are Australia and Canada trying to limit the influx of international students? Are the students just scapegoats for the governments who have failed to control their housing crises?

India needs to focus on creating opportunities in India. It is not the job of foreign countries to create jobs for Indians.

Most Indians don't come for study but to stay.

Good news! We need students not workers. Most students come here to work not to study.

If as Palki says these students are such an asset why doesn't India provide an higher education and housing for them. Instead chastising other countries for considering the concerns of their people.

As a national from Finland, who did 3 months exchange in Canada 4 years ago, i was actually shocked that 97% of the student in my class were indians, i dont hate indians, but my hope was to meet students from all around the world, not only indians, That was the goal of my student exchange, but honestly the indian students hardly stay in class, they just work work work and work. Glad i am back in Finland, Din't miss canada at all :)

Should have cracked down on this along time ago. You can’t keep letting people in when there isn’t even enough homes to house your own citizens. It’s simple logic that unfortunately has taken this long to materialize.

Canada is already wrecked by the huge number of low skills ‘students’ from Punjab and Gujarat.

The difference between Chinese and Indian students.
1. Most Chinese students getting their student visa they study and spend money sent from their parents from China or elsewhere.
Indian students half study half working past time to finance their study. Not much money will spendh sending from India or from outside.
2. Most Chinese students after graduation they go back to China.
Indian students most stay on and compete with the local for jobs.

Canada/"Why would you want to kill a golden goose, " as this reporter says.
My response: It's high time Canada and other Western countries cut down the number of foreign students as once they are in, they never go back to their home countries. They use the student visa route as a back door entry into the country.
Canadians are fed up and angry at this mass immigration of foreign students and temporary foreign workers. So now the government is listening and acting.
Why is it so difficult for foreign students to return to their country once their studies are complete. Indian students in some parts of Canada are demonstrating to extend their work permits. Why? Their studies are over.

I think palki sharma has explained it correctly, both Australia and Canada are facing severe economic slowdown, there are no jobs in the market, I’m in Australia from 8 years, I know people in Canada also, both the countries face acute housing crisis and government is not doing much to solve the problems, because all influential people and top politicians have huge real estate portfolios, no body wants to solve the problem everyone wants to milk the situation, same is the case in Canada. I’m seeing problem day in day out, it’s getting worse, Local aussies who were doing blue collar jobs not able to pay bills properly, it’s a messy situation in Australia and Canada

These governments viewed foreign students as golden goose. They knew very well that most of the students from India/China were using student visas as a gateway to enter to these countries. I can understand if someone comes abroad for a PhD degree, but vocational training or a bachelor/masters degree?? Why pay millions to these countries, when you do not even know that a job will follow suit ??.. we Indians need to get rid of our obsession of these countries. Life is very hard also in these countries.. As someone, who left India 20 yeras ago for Germany to do PhD in Neuroscience, I can say that life is not easy in these countries.. stay in India and build India..

In Australia, it is the rental crisis. The international students make it hard for locals to rent a property and not many properties are available for locals. Government wants to reduce the housing pressure.

Well explained. Thanks for bringing up the video. Financial education is indeed required for more than 70% of the society in the country as very few are literate on the subject…

The truth is Most Indian students final goal is to stay in Australia and bring their family and student visa is the easiest way!. You cant blame them, everyone wants to have a better opportunity and good life! The life in India is hard that is why many are turning to scamming, the easiest way to earn big dollars!

Ok, good for India. Indians
can start good international standard collages in India itself and keep the foreign exchange at home.

As an Australian who actually married an Indian woman who came here as a student, I can say she never had plans to stay and had a plan to go back and work in her father's business. She had around 50 Indians in her class and everyone has returned to India. But in truth there has been many who come here fail to study and do silly courses like Cooking to try to stay at some second-rate Uni and unfortunately, they have done a lot of damage to the reputation to Indian studing. But in truth, this is because the government has made a mess of the housing market
