If you’re not critical of your country, you don’t love it enough. Love doesn’t mean “accept everything they do”

Perfect example of misinformation. Noam Chomsky clearly said "I don't love countries love is a relationship between people" . This interviewer is one twisted fellow, putting his own ignorant interpretations to the whole thing. Loving a country is meaningless you're loving an object, a person that loves the people in the country is far more morally superior.

This was just embarrassing for PBD. Chomsky's level of intellect and ability to comprehend larger entities than just individual anecdotes and decisions (which PBD always brings up) proves he's just wasting time "debating" on something that Patrick doesn't understand.

Noam Chomsky has made some excellent points. He certainly doesn't hate America but is critical of some of its behaviour.

If you read enough history you'll become a cynic of not just countries but of humanity. Whether Noam wants to say it or not everything he spoke about in the good and bad of countries is a reflection of humans. We're all angels with horns holding up the halo.

Noam is simply in another level and I understand why is so hard for Patrick to reconcile with his beliefs. Noam is looking at the world from the top down, while most are only able to see it from the bottom up. Both perspectives are right but Patrick is seeing it as an individual while Noam is observing everything through its systems. Love both these guys, Great talk, loved it!

He explained, his love isn't towards countries rather humanity, ... and also spoke about how Britain took over Iran when they were moving towards democracy

You can love BEING in a country. It might be relative freedom, cleanliness, relative standards of living, many things.
We can love being there.

Found out today watching a CNBC episode in ASML that semiconductor lithography was created/invented by the US military. Noam is 100% right that in general most significant advancements come from public funding. Thank you professor.

Patrick wasn't ready for a deeper analysis. Happy someone pushed beyond his surface level rhetoric

The video title is misleading. Chomsky clarified that countries as a whole can’t be loved, so he isn’t singling out US, but rather he said it is a non-question “do you love USA”. To then place as the video title exactly as Chomsky not loving USA is contrary to the point he was making. We don’t want to love and celebrate USA if we sincerely care for it, just as we don’t love any other country if we care for it. If we care for a country then we try to find faults, and try to improve it.

The question should be: “would you want to live anywhere else?” Most Americans have no real idea how bad the conditions are for billions of people around the world. I hate some of the things America has done to other people/countries in the past 200 years. It’s still the best place to live BY FAR..

Loving a country is a very dangerous thought. A country can change at any point and as an individual you are better off leaving than trying to fight for it.

How pathetic and tendentious to name your little clip 'Noam Chomsky doesn't love America'!! You didn't understand a word this great man said. Of course he doesn't love countris - he loves humanity instead. While those who claim to love countries don't love those countries either but they have the justification to actually hate people! I definitely don't love any country either... I love people.

I am American, But I don't live in America. I have lived in Italy, France, Switzerland and Argentina. Acknowledging that America is not The Greatest Country on Earth does not mean you do not love America. Admitting something or someone is flawed does not make you love it any less. As to "love" being an emotion between people is true.
