My wife and I just replaced the struts in her 2011 CRV is less than 5 minutes. Got them from Amazon. No need to mess with the clips on the NEW struts...they just fit right on. Easy Peazy. The mechanic wanted 28.00 to put the ones I bought on the car. Thanks for an easy to understand video. You rock.

Auto zone charges $60 for 1 but thankfully I checked Amazon, it was $36 for a pair. Can’t wait to get mine fixed. Thanks for your video.

Hi Jim! One word of warning—don’t get complacent after you replace the first arm. It seems to hold the tailgate up but when I removed the second arm (4:07 of the video) the tailgate crashed down and the glass shattered. Lesson learned and wanted to warn others that one arm is not strong enough to hold up the tailgate alone. With both in, it holds fine.

Thanks, Jim! You and Rock Auto saved me at least $100 on these. I didn’t have 2 vice grips so used an old ski pole initially :)

This was a great video. I was able to change out quickly and all is working well now. My friend helped me by holding up the trunk while I replaced the strong arms. I got mine from Amazon for just under $50....easy peasy.

Thank you so much. I just need to replace my wife's tailgate lift support struts. I found this video and it was very helpful. Especially about using vise grips to keep the tailgate in place. It worked!

Tailgate struts typically last about 5 years. This is why the swinging rear gate in the old CRVs was a superior design. No tailgate strut failures, no lift gate crashing down on your head, no hands required to shut the gate (you just nudged it with your knee). Another bonus was a full-sized spare on the back that could be utilized without having to unpack the whole car. You won't think about this until you get a flat tire on a back country road, the car packed with wife, kids, and all of their stuff, and it's raining to boot.
