This Youtube channel is all about Comic Art and Illustration techniques. I do teach other things like drawing with various digital devices, programs, and apps as well. In this video tutorial, I used a Wacom Cintiq 22HD and the software Clip Studio Paint a.k.a. Manga Studio 5. These perspective techniques can be used for traditional or digital artists

I always wondered about backgrounds in comics. What if you have to draw a city like New York for instance, do you work constantly off of photographs, because I can imagine you just can 't fake it anymore the way the older comics did and draw a couple of rectangles to evoke a city scape. I imagine you need pictures for specific locations and such, but if you have to draw a large cityscape (when Spider-Man swings around for example), do you kinda wing it and invent all kinds of details, or do you search the net for tons of references. It's probably a stupid question but when I sometimes look at backgrounds in comics I just can't help but wonder how the artists came up with such specific angles and details (I tried looking up references myself and it's amazing how uninventive and boring most pictures are, not to mention lack of detail. They're great for the street scenes and such, but large overviews are so difficult to find). And if you draw a fictional city like Gotham it must be even worse!

I love it. I'd describe it as "old school." Its classic comic-strip style reminds me of the work in the reprinted "Steve Canyon" collections I have. (Perhaps the word you were struggling for was "human/hands-on" vs. the mechanistic/machine-drawn feel?)

You don't depend on use of perspective rulers and strictly straight lines? Deviation!
