Good for you. I did something similar and retired at 63 with two homes paid for, no debt, and $75K per year in retirement without touching the principle. My portfolio gains continues to outpace my withdrawals and next year when I am forced to take minimum distributions the after tax money will be reinvested in income tax free bonds and utilities. You are creating family wealth that can be passed on to help your family. It just takes a plan and the discipline to stick with it. I tell my young friends who can't wait to spend every penny they make to imagine what it will be like to be old and poor.
