The US can print money and not create inflation within the US because that money is exported overseas. The US dollar is used for international trade, now if the dollar starts being used less in international trade, there will be less demand for the dollar, thus will affect the ability of the US to export its inflation.

Breton Woods granted USA the reserve currency status in 1944 when it was clear the allies would win WWII. USA was chosen because we had the only Army, Navy, and Merchant Marine that could stop Stalin from taking all of Europe. Breton Woods will hold until USA's abuse of Reserve Status becomes so expensive that it is cheaper for countries to build their own military. That said, some countries are creating a currency for trade with Russia who is famously excluded from Breton Woods because there is no Russian Central Bank.
