How to write a poem in 10 minutes - fun interactive poetry tutorial for kids (Simon Mole poet)

This writing exercise helps young poets quickly generate ideas. By answering a series of simple questions children (or adults!) can write a poem about their voice and how they intend to use it.

I see poetry as an opportunity for individuals to find their own voice, understand its power and think about the wider change it might possibly bring about.

I've had a lot of success using this with small groups of year 5 or 6 children working independently, but I also know it works well with a whole keystage 2 class of any year, provided they are being taken through it by a teacher or Teaching assistant.

Each time you pause the video, it will help to remind the group of the main prompt and then remind them to be as specific as they can with their answers.
