China’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong recently asked 14 military-style youth groups to abandon British foot drills and instead adopt those used by the People’s Liberation Army. But, at a flag-raising ceremony on May 4, only one of the groups complied with the request.

Dude, let's be real here, if you been training marching for months and then near d-day they asked you to change how you would ussually march, your brain would spinning and ultimately blow

I love how people are saying that people were treated so poorly under british administration. People in Hong Kong lived far longer than mainland Chinese due to not having to endure Mao's collectivist policies. And when HK was handed back to China most people with money, education, or democratic values moved to other parts of the commonwealth. Like in canada there is a massive HK population due to the mass exodus of people fleeing the PRC.

Interesting, i didnt know Hong Kong has youth groups formed to emulate army, air force and navy where Hong Kong itself does not have one

This year, I participated in the same event showed in the video. The scout association chose us to represent scout to march on a ceremony that happened on May 4th. They requested our group to march in Chinese style, instead of British Style which is the old and normal way. We had to adapt and completely learn how to march in that way, in the span of 3 weeks. The biggest difference between the 2 types of marching is definitely the way our legs move. For British marching, it feels more formal, where as for Chinese Marching, it feels more like walking, but is definitely still coordinated.

Things would be different if they lived in 150 years ago. Thay can only ask how high when Britain order them to jump.

As a kid, I saw the collapse of the USSR and the return of HK. A lot can change in 1-2 generations. I wil be alive to see HK fully integrated into China in 2047.

Funny how it is always the youths who never lived under foreign colonization before who reminisce about former colonizers. British for the HK and Japan for Taiwan.

China marching style display a formidable fighting army. This is what military marching should look like. Not like walking in the park.

TBH the goose step march used by China looks hard compared to the original ones

Follow another way of marching, Isn’t a new form of colonisation? I really don’t understand why people comment below the video claims the Hong Kong tradition as a symbol of british colonialism. Hong Kong received a magnificent modernisation after the British occupation after 1842. The institution of Hong Kong has been established well by British order.
The objective of “one country two systems” is to maintain british construction after 1997, it proofed the advantages of British rule in Hong Kong.
If u think keeping british way is Hongkongers like to being colonised, it shows your ignorance of Hong Kong History and Modern Chinese History.

Glad they have kept the British style of marching. I think most people regret going back to Chinese rule because of a lease agreement🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Ill support what the young generation want s to achieve. Its not a total disrespect to their mainland. They cant deny hongkong become part of chinas succesful economic history. The british rule on hongkong back way ago give a chance to every hongkongers even in mainland to grow and prosper. And its part of their history . And respect
