*Instructions:*
Look at the video in dark room. All the moving objects should have sharp borders, squares should have sharp vertical and horizontal borders. All objects should have stable brightess for the white. All the area outside the objects should be fully black with no blooming or gradients of any kind.

See especially the "corners" of the circle. Do you see changes in the "black" as the circle moves?

Displays using local dimming technology will show light leak to black area that changes depending on where the white object is within the whole display area. Also check that all the white objects have identical brightness regardless of the position on the screen area. Some displays show object as darker when it's near the edge of the screen.

In addition, most Samsung displays have "global dimming" that makes whole image darker when most of it is black. Those displays will draw the small circle more as light grey instead of white. Samsung does this to pretend better black level (the black looks more black because the backlight of the whole display is turned down, not because the panel is actually able to do proper black - however, the rest of the image gets too dark as a result, too).

Also see the borders of the fast moving white circle. Does the border look blurred or colored? It should display sharp circle that's fully white and outside is fully black. Any fuzzy border or light leak or uneven white is result of display not being able to display the correct image. If you see any color on the edge, the display has uneven response time for different subpixels. If you see non-white color, the hue of the color can be used to figure which subpixels are faster or slower than the rest. If you see multiple circles overlapping each other the display backlight has PWM flicker that doesn't match the display refresh rate.

Expect to see at least one of the above described problems on your screen. I have never seen a display that is able to display even this simple video perfectly. The closest should be a fast LCD panel *without local dimming* and without global dimming and with a strobing backlight (sometimes called Black Frame Insertion or BFI) where strobe is short and syncronized with the frame rate. Such a display will have a stable dark grey looking "black" over the whole image but none of the other problems I mentioned above. And static full white image will flicker a bit on such a display.

FV43U only has 8 zones but the circle is bright AF. Love it.

i learned that Linus's TVs are trash at dimming and that my random choice of a TV is somehow better

Looks cool on the XS Max in the dark. Can’t tell I’m a holding a phone, and it looks like the shapes are floating in mid air because of the OLED screen.

I tested it on my Samsung Q90 and I cannot shut local dimming down but changed it to „low“. But I still have lot of different colors of whites on my tv. What can I do?

My monitor may be an old LCD screen with 1080P resolution, but man, it sure does handle this video well.

Just to be sure... I'm having troubles with this footage is it because of YouTube compression algorithm ?
