In this 1997 story, Richard Carleton investigated what really happened in Paris the day of Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed's fatal car crash.

*Synopsis | Princess Diana's final hours (1997)*
The bald facts are known. Princess Diana was killed in a car, travelling at speed, by a drunken driver fleeing photographers. But now the funeral is over, the recriminations are beginning. Reporting from Paris, Richard Carleton pieces together the last hours in the life of Princess Diana. Talking with Paris bar owners he tells of the unstable, drink-loving man who drove Diana to her death, to the security man who should have been by the Princess' side, to those at the accident scene and those who shouldn't have been -- the photographers who chased Diana's Mercedes into the Paris tunnel, then snapped away as doctors tried to help the dying Princess.

When the bodyguard was interviewed, he said the driver was NOT “drunk”. Other evidence also suggest that -even though he had had alcohol earlier that evening, he showed no sign of being drunk.

The only thing we know for sure is that three people died and one lived. We will never know exactly what happened.

One thing (of many) that I found so odd…if Henri Paul had drank a bottle and 1/2 of wine, he was conversing normally, bending down, tying his shoe, not stumbling. I don’t know but I think he was the scapegoat of a bigger plan. Just so very sad. She did so much good and Dodi had his entire future in front of him.😔

Driving at 100 mph through city streets because you don't want your picture taken is inexcusable! If people woke up to the news that a child was run over by a car with people who were speeding away from having there picture taken we would be having a VERY different conversation!

12:58 You can tell by his face he knows he is partly to blame. He also said the driver was drunk, after previously saying he wasn't drunk...

I can’t imagine how uncomfortable is if someone with cameras followed everywhere you go

There's only one question that to this day has never been answered why did they leave the hotel in the first place. They had security and luxurious accommodation and people there to help them. I certainly wouldn't say no to any of that given to me for nothing too !!

It's just like Diana to be thinking of others even when she should have been more worried about the paps weren't worried about her well-being. Rest in heaven you beautiful Angel!

We all loved and miss Diana . Her life was so sad after marrying a.
“Prince”. She would have stayed loyal to the Royal Family. But it was doomed from the start, my heart still aches when I think of it all.

The official autopsy showed Henri Paul was NOT drunk. He had just come off duty and stopped in the hotel bar where he had 3 drinks before retiring for the day. Something else was up. He was ordered to drive them even though he was finished for the day. There is a startling video stating a very different version. They had only known each other 40 days. I don't believe it was an engagement ring. She had plans that didn't include Dodi.

10:00 - if you know someone to be drunk is in charge of a motor vehicle because you've seen them drunk before they got in and instead of notifying the authorities of something potentially dangerous happening as they sped off you, instead, get on a motorbike to start pursuing them at high speed through a built-up area you are at the very least guilty of manslaughter in my opinion

Of course it's just my opinion and the majority of people in this cruel world happily pay money to these people to harass others on their behalf

Why did it take 45 minutes for Emergency Medical Services to show up after the accident?!!! 😁

So, they checked into the hotel, a few hours later left and went to his house, then they came back to the hotel, then they left the hotel again to go back to his house. Seriously? They already knew all the security problems. Just stay in one place.... don't really get that part. I'm sure they could have had a 'private moment' at the Ritz.
