Lorry driver hits car and crashes on A55

Lorry driver Raymond Catterall crashed into a stationary car and swerved off the A55 in north Wales.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and using a handheld mobile phone whilst driving.

There is no excuse for that. Everyone knows how dangerous that behaviour is. There could have been fatalities there. It’s scary that there are obviously others out there doing the same. Light sentences are no deterrent.

After almost getting killed by a distracted driver whilst riding my motorcycle, it boils my blood that these sentences are so low for dangerous driving.

The driver who hit me only got a 9 month sentence, suspended for a year and 2 year driving ban.

The truck driver was definitely in the wrong but anyone who stops there car halfway on the hard shoulder and road on a dual carriageway is clearly an idiot

20 more yds and the car could have stopped further over to the left beyond the crash barrier and hazard lights should be put on, as for the lorry driver he needs a far longer ban and sentence in order to deter others
