S-2 UK Mainland Ep. 04 - Onto Scotland

This is Day 4 & 5 of my UK mainland trip. On day 4 we set off from the Lake district towards Inverness, crossing the border into Scotland, through Edinburgh stopping just short of Perth. Another good mix of roads and scenery but dire weather warnings meant that I chose to stay another night at the "Famous Bein Inn" to avoid the heavy rains on Day 5, and I'm glad I did.

Finished a 6 day ride of the West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina mountains last Monday (10/17) with a combination of camping and hoteling. Light rain two of those days. Beautiful time of the year for riding there though.

An amber weather warning when you're on a motorcycle is not what you want! Good that you have the flexibility to stay put in warm and dry accommodation when the need arises. I'm looking forward to the Scotland content and trust that you enjoyed the NC500 in spite of the late in the season start. Thanks for the update.

That hotel is in my part of the world and always wondered what the food was like. Seemed to me it looked decent so may stop for lunch sometime.

I think you made the right choice to have a day off as such, bikes and extreme weather are not the best combination! Besides it's good to have a day to recharge the human batteries as well as device batteries! lol.

You’re right about the 20mph limits Nick. I rode the A7 last year and was surprised how long the limits were, especially on a major trunk road. Unnecessary really, as I reckon it would just lead to a lack of concentration, and even encourage drivers to have a look at their phones etc.
There were some installed near me, but they were gone within a few weeks. There’s a right place for them, but not on a major route.

How have you found the Shad saddle bag supports? I see that it looks like you are using something different now. This route looks like a lot of fun. I am doing a road trip up to the north east of Scotland in December. In a car not on my bike but still looking forward to it.
