That opening. Bringing chills to my body and tears to my soul. I love my peoples music, more than anything that my people have done. Long live the Cree and the plains Indians beyond

my high school gf at the time was native American (pima tribe) and she introduced me to this culture. senior year in high school I visited the makah tribe in Washington. did a spiritual cleansing there and I have to say, it was something powerful and amazing. I wish I could be native American to be a part of such a great culture.

You can hear the spirits and energy and the pain, the suffering, the perseverance in the voices. In the sound. It captures you

Many would say it's "only" a symbolic gesture that the mainstream in Canada has made moves to incorporate the traditionally marginalized & colonised, but the symbolism of that gesture is very powerful. Indeed, we have a long way to go as a country towards healing & setting things right, and it remains to be seen whether words & gestures will be followed by definitive actions, but it gives me hope that we are moving in the right direction towards becoming one nation of equal opportunity, equal voice & equality in standard of life, towards finally becoming Canada.

I hope Tribe Called Red reaches Tragically Hip levels of reverence in Canadian music. Wish they would tour the US.

I remember when I was a kid, another kid asked me where I was from. I was shocked as I had never been asked that before and answered “ from here” he said no where are you really from. I answered again “ from here” He though I was stupid and walked away laughing at me. But I have no other answer many years later. I am Mi’kmaq, and I’m from here. Thanks for being such a good representation for people to know we are still here.
