It also helped that it was Ushiwaka that asked him why he was there at all bc Ushiwaka never says things out of malice or dishonesty. So when he asked that it wasn't out of spite, he was genuinely asking what Hinata's plan was, which motivated Hinata to find a reason.

The reason for Goshiki's reaction to seeing Hinata like that in the storage room, as revealed in a bonus segment at the end of the manga chapter this covered, is that whenever Goshiki feels down about his performance, he does the same thing.

I’ve been thinking it about it for quite some time that I could hear Adam talk for hours. Always brings a fresh perspective in a well articulated and calm manner while being playful and emotional when it’s due. Among all the Haikyuu reactors I’ve seen is the best one by far.
Hope you have a nice day Adam!

Takeda is the wisest man in the world. He understands him and Ukai should guide them to the right but also give those kids some space to think for themselves. He remembers they are 15-17 year old, growing kids. Such a man.

9:10 that's the same rooted symbolism that happened to Daichi right before he took initiative to start practicing after-hours with Suga and Asahi

As a teacher, I feel like when I watch anime I spend a big chunk of the time panicking about teaching/mentoring choices that characters make ("no, that's not tough love, it is reckless endangerment!"). But Takeda and Ukai make up for all of that with how thoughtful they are and how well they work together. I loved what Adam said about Ukai trying not to crush Hinata's spirit (and acknowledging losing sleep over students!), and I especially love Takeda's reminder that "we're not the only ones thinking".

Adam's so excited. Is this the first time that he initiated the recap discussion?

The reason Tendo asked hinata if he was playing or not was also because it seemed like hinata was being excluded like he was back in his younger days. Tendo is the guy which seems to not care for others but he doesn’t want you to go through the same pain as him and that’s why I genuinely love tendo. He’s willing to be the dark side of life and uses it to make everyone happier, so long as you aren’t playing against him.

that shot of Hinata emerging from the storage room, holding a mop where we only see his back is such great foreshadowing of this arc and what Hinata ends up learning. it's the exact same shot when we were first introduced to nishinoya and we got his nickname "the guardian deity" in s1. they even sneak in a "double rolling thunder" as a throwaway joke :)) as in, "guardian deity" x 2.

Great reaction as always!
As Adam mentioned, Hinata always manages to get people on his side. The first-year students from Shiratorizawa called him "Shoyo" right away (maybe on the 2nd day?), which is very rare in Japanese society, even though they are all first years. Nishinoya is the type of person who calls everyone by their first name, but this reflects his straightforward and friendly personality, anyway.
At 13:30, Sarah watches Hinata like a gentle mother...so impressive. At 14:53, the vice principal worries about Hinata like a caring father.
By the way, Nishinoya mistakenly memorized the 2-meter-tall guy's name as "Manzawa (10, 000 streams), " but his name is "Hyakuzawa (100 streams)"... he multiplied by 100🤣

Haikyuu training arcs really cemented my love for them. Seeing improvement slowly but surely is so inspiring.

9:20 A small but fun detail: back in season 3, during the third years' flashback, Daichi had vines wrapped around his feet as well in his first year.

And one of the big parts of the montage in that flashback that followed? Daichi participating as a ball boy. Just one of several parallels between Daichi and Hinata in this series.

I remember in High School we had a kid crash our summer camp for hockey and he was a couple years younger than us. He was not as skilled as all of us were but dang did that kid work hard. Our coaches let him stick around and be a part of the off ice conditioning but on ice he was supposed to fill up water bottles and pick up pucks. He wasnt the most skilled player I ever met but he worked so hard and he came back the next season when we played his team and he was the best player on his team. It says a lot about someone when they can swallow their pride and stick it out like Hinata does.

Can’t believe we got another 20 weeks before we even talk about seeing Adam’s reaction to the movie lol.

I really like Ukai and Takeda’s dynamic, especially how it’s shown in this episode. Both lack something required for teaching these kids, one is not familiar with volleyball and the other is not familiar with teaching. They compliment each other so well and I’m so glad we get to see them grow along with the team.

Ahhh the happiness in Adams eyes at the beginning "..we have another training arc.." great😆
Best thing of the episode was that it holds some promise, especially for Hinata, in terms of patience and insight. Hinata came in a situation that was unknown and new to him, he had hoped to take part in the training.
Great part in the episode is the chat with Ukai and the sentence of him that Hinata shouldn´t underestimate the part of a ballboy. This and the appearance of Ushiwaka brings Hinata in the end of the episode to think a total new way, what can he learn if he isn´t part of the game and not on the court? What chance can he make out of that situtaion in which he is now? To come to this knowledge at the end is a big step for Hinata. Can´t wait for your next reaction next week.

Hinata really is that kid that regardless of how many questionable or embarrassing decisions he takes , you simply HAVE to give him credit for the commitment…but also could never be me

7:18 Coach Washijou say “keep you eyes on them”

In Asia, many masters of the trade do not actually teach their students any techniques, but rather tell them to observe carefully, I think Coach Washijou is this type of coach

Kinda touched when Adam made the point about Ukai and Takeda’s discussion. I’m now a first year ESL English teacher and it’s truly something I lose sleep over sometimes. I know in some aspects the school wants me to focus on raising the ability of “elite” students and in other aspects just to make sure they get everything done to improve the school ranking, and I see the purpose in those things, but is that truly best for the children? I’d be mightily pleased and proud of myself if I am able to help even a few of them starting thinking for themselves, or continuing thinking about those things, but it’s really tough.

Really grateful for all the discussions this episode, precisely because how difficult it is.
