Its much better without that hideous sepia filter. Its got awful reviews at yhe time but it truly is a beautiful masterpiece. The scene where the old ladies are pushing the plough is breath taking. Like a real life painting.

I have seen both the original and the director's cut. Both are masterpieces of cinema. The film was part of the reason for the collapse of United Artists studios. The film went way over budget and in today's money would be at least $300 million to make (it was $30 million in 1978). There were so many scenes in the film that are incredible to watch. The dance outside of Harvard. The roller skate dance in the community hall. The shootout scenes. The scene with the wealthy landowners. Great script writing too.

Haven't watched the movie but I heard this movie has the same fate as Once Upon a Time in America (the original cut is 12 hours but cut down to two parts 3 hours and then 4 hours until even 2 hours) which is a flop because the studio cut a lot of key scenes and the movie have a lot of disgusting scenes like r**ing

Is this where the Cult stole its name? The cult started in 1978 and the movie is in 1980 but the cult goes on until the 90s so I am not sure.

This was on a top 20 list by Watch Mojo of films ruined by studio interference. I can see why. At one point, I was questioning what the plot was. It's never a good sign for a film. You should know within 30 seconds what the film is pursuing.

Remove the prequel and some cuts here and there, and at just over 160 minutes Cimino could have had a Masterpiece.
Editing is this film’s biggest flaw.
