Should You Still Invest In The S&P500?

The US stock market has had a difficult few weeks. We had a major stock market sell off earlier in the week, and its raised questions amongst US investors and UK investors whether the S&P500 is still a good investment in the near term. Today I thought we could discuss this in more detail, giving the pros and cons of the US stock market, versus the rest of the world, and share how this has impacted my Trading 212 investment portfolio, as my Trading 212 portfolio is heavily and solely weighted towards US stocks.

My portfolio doesn’t just cater to dividend stocks. I hold $VFIAX (S&P 500 index fund) in my Roth IRA and $VTI (Total Stock Market ETF) in my taxable brokerage account. Two of my largest holdings. The individual dividend stock positions all complement the index holdings.

I came across your channel through this video—case studies are incredibly valuable, and I'm eager to see more in the future! Building wealth involves establishing routines, like consistently setting aside funds at regular intervals for smart investments.

currently I'm managing my finances wisely and being frugal. In the last 19 months, my investments grew by 43%. However, I've had losses in the past month, making me anxious. I'm unsure whether to sell everything or wait.

I’ve tried investing in various things that didn't work out as I hoped. I'm now considering ETFs as a more reliable option. What are the best 5 ETFs for a rookie investor looking to invest a lump sum? let's say $500, 000

The Nasdaq has outperformed the S&P500. If you applied the same logic for investing in the S&P500 over an All World index, you can apply the same logic for investing in the Nasdaq over the S&P500. For me the All World makes more sense

I’ve been thinking about investing in the S&P 500, but with everything going on in the market right now, I’m not sure if it’s still a good idea

Started my portfolio last year with SCHD, VOO, and VUG after watching one of your videos. In terms of share price, VOO is way up (22.25%) and VUG is up (39.62%). Thanks for the education!

I know that the given strategy when it comes to investing is to dollar cost average in, 'set & forget' and to let it ride, but recently I've been experimenting with a trailing stop loss.

I've found that this way when things are going south you get out securing your profit and then once things have settled usually a few days later you buy back in again, but now with more shares and oftern at a lower average. Be interesting to hear your thoughts on this...

These have always been long term ETFs, just whack it in there and forget. Although my S&P500 share in my GIA is low because I like to do riskier things in there, my ISA is 70% S&P500.

Hi Mitch, firstly love the content. Pitched at just the right level. I am a new investor (started on 1st Jan 24) I just wondered if you think I am doing my investing journey correctly? 😂 I am 55yrs old. I already receive a pension and am lucky enough to be able to work again growing a second DB pension for when I choose to retire again! I am lucky enough to own 3 properties that I rent out in the UK. I have started a T212 ISA in both cash and S/S. £5K in the cash ISA as my emergency pot. Then £15k in a S/S ISA. But I was always worried about being a tinkerer. So within the £15k 75% is in a the S&P 500. The other 25% is based on 15 dividend paying UK stocks that offer a bit of excitement seeing the dividends roll in every month. I am able to invest £500 per month into these stocks in the same proportions (75% and 25%). My plan is just to leave the S&P to grow and if I get the urge to tinker I can use the less expensive stocks to have some fun without messing it up too much.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Hi
Thank you for the video id like to ask a question
I’ve been following you since beginning and I see that in a video you say that you get bigger returns because even in bear market you invest or you doubled your investing each month. The other day I watched your monthly investing portfolio video and you say that you hold on some positions and stop putting more money in. Why do you put more money in some stock monthly even if it’s a bear market and why do you hold your position in others? Thank you for taking time explaining

I’m investing 50% S&P500, 40% world index fund and 10% individual stocks. Investing £300 per month and rising for the long term (+20 years)

Sit tight, hang on and enjoy the downs for opportunities as well as the ups for the easier thrills 😮
