I feel Australian doctors are 10 years away of truely understanding the devastating affects withdrawals has on patients and their families.

This information is exceptionally important. I am pleased to see it being shared. My hope is it continues to be shared and awareness grows amongst medical professionals. Patients need advocacy and knowledgeable care; it's paramount in deprescibing.

Points very well noted. However; finding a dr who's willing 2 help u taper off psych meds is very minimal @ best.

Great that you are bringing attention to this issue but WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE THAT TAPERING SLOWLY WILL PREVENT THESE NEUROLOGICAL ISSUES WHEN OFF THE DRUGS???

Another issue is that some medications have whats caled a"sub therapeutic dose", which means that there's a point at which the medication makes you feel worse.
When you first start taking meds, this is alleviated by increasing the dose, but when coming off the meds, you hit that sub therapeutic level, but can only slowly taper through it, which means you can potentially be in that zone for weeks or months.
Its the thing thats preventing me from being able to quit mine because I can't afford to spend months in a state where I can barely function.
I dont know how Im ever going to get off them.
Has anyone else experienced this?

It took me 5 years to wean off Parnate. I forced them to hospitalized me near the end to completely get off of it

This has always been the case with a lot of other meds. That’s why we need to talk to the psychiatrist before getting off any meds.

Doctor I'm from Sri Lanka, I had anxiety, not a GAD, was priscribed venlafaxine, I couldn't sleep while takin it, then doc gave me alprozolam. After taking those all my emotions gone, now I'm feeling nothing, can't remember roads. Can't remember anything I learn. I was ruined by those meds. Also I hear a noice from mid of my brain. It's sound like chit chit chit, like that, pls help me, thank you

I took venlafaxine 10 years ago, and I continue to have brain zaps, emotional blunting, and brain fog. I wish I never took antidepressants.

I need help! I went off of 20 mg Prozac cold turkey after being on it for 15 yrs. I was off of it for 9 months and felt like I was barely hanging on and thought going back on meds was my only way to stabilize. I've been working with a physciatrist who claims she's had people come off cold turkey and reinstate 6 months plus later. I am 7 weeks back on Prozac at 40 mg now plus Seroquel for constant intrusive thoughts. I am still barely hanging on. I need suggestions! PLEASE HELP!
