That is an absolutely beautiful guitar.

Bass is one of the most important frequency ranges, having the bass string retuned in this way reinforces the key of Dmaj/min if used which leads to greater harmony.

Using different tunings is very underrated by newer players because unless you take guitar/music theory lessons nobody will really explain how these more technical things work.

My Tip for newer players is to never worry about the "correct" ways of playing any instrument because the reality is there isn't any rules for music, as a more experienced player I personally love listening to newer players cause their creativity isnt stained by "rules" on how to play. I always say "music theory guides you to guaranteed Harmony, but selective Dissonance is what makes your music unique".

Another way to tune down is to tune down until the 7th fret on the E string (going to become D) sounds the same as the A string

Gordon Lightfoot uses it sometimes especially on early morning rain gets to the deep sound. Oh, John Lennon used it in dear prudence and so on.
