Using models to name fractions greater than 1 (3rd and 4th grade)

You can't learn by watching. Get some paper and try the problems. Pause and check.

If you say it enough times, it should become part of your thought process. The denominator of a fraction can represent different things depending on the question. In *this* example with models, we'll focus on knowing how to name the denominator by the size of the part, and the numerator is how many of those parts we have.

I want to thank you for your videos. My friends son was struggling with common core long division, and I wanted to help her desperately. I'm 47, and common core came long after I left school. I was intimidated and had heard a ton of bad things. That long division video...the way you logically presented it was..perfect. I feel like I 'get it'. It is a very different way of thinking, but hey that's not a bad thing....I disliked long division as a kid, but learning how common core approaches it...almost seems fun. And definitely makes me think about how the math works more than the old way. Thanks again for this. I see you haven't uploaded in a while, I'm sad to see that but know your videos are still helping people years later!
