Im still really struggling with this, my physics teacher doesnt explain how to do anything, he just gives us the assignments and we have to figure out how to do it, every afternoon for me is devoted to trying to understand how to do this and it takes about 2 hours per each question. I really dont know what to do... Its taking up so much of my time

In a video game I was playing I downloaded some mods that added cannons and howitzers. The mods didn't come with any ballistic calculators so I decided to make my own with which I could find the angle at which I need to fire. I tried and failed, tried and failed more, tried and succeeded a bit, then failed more for 2 days until I got to sin(2theta)= dg/v^2 (d being distance) and I got stuck as I didn't know how to solve it for theta. Thank you good sir for you have now helped me in this task which was insightful and fun.

Do you know how to find the maximum height when you're only given the time of flight and the range? I got the correct answer according to my textbook by multiplying acceleration due to gravity by the time ( 9.8 x 8) but I don't understand how that worked.
If it helps the question was 'A projectile has a time of flight of 8.0s and a range of 1120m, find maximum height and launch velocity'
